Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Dailey.
Hi Amy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My baking journey started right out of my home kitchen five years ago, fueled by a love for baking and a creative outlet that quickly turned into something much bigger. What began as a passion for experimenting with decorated sugar cookies and custom cakes for family and friends naturally blossomed into a full-fledged cottage food business.
Getting to where I am today hasn’t happened overnight—it’s been five years of late-night baking marathons, countless test batches, mastering the quirks of royal icing in summer humidity, and continuously learning how to bring clients’ design ideas to life. From animal-themed birthdays and sports milestones to elegant wedding dessert tables, every custom order has helped me grow my craft.
Today, I’m so grateful to run a busy home-based bakery that allows me to connect with my community, be part of my clients’ most cherished celebrations, and do what I enjoy every single day.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road! Running a custom baking business from a home kitchen comes with a unique set of daily juggling acts.
One of the biggest hurdles early on was simply finding a balance between creative time, business management, and family life when your workspace is also your living space. There are plenty of late nights spent troubleshooting equipment, managing tight deadlines during peak celebration seasons, or racing against the clock when things just don’t go the way you had expected or hoped.
Beyond the kitchen mechanics, navigating the ever-changing logistics of being a cottage food baker means wearing a hundred different hats—from decorator and baker to customer service and photographer. But every challenge, unexpected baking disaster, and late-night fix has been a massive learning experience that helped shape the business into what it is today.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
What I Do & What I Specialize In
I run a home-based custom bakery specializing in handcrafted, decorated sugar cookies, statement cakes, and cupcakes designed for all of life’s milestones. From whimsical, character-themed birthday parties and sports celebrations to elegant wedding dessert spreads, I love turning creative visions into delicious, happy memories.
What I’m Known For & Most Proud Of
What I am most proud of is reaching the 5-year milestone of running this business entirely on my own terms. Over the last five years, I’ve grown from a home kitchen hobbyist into a trusted local baker whose treats take center stage at families’ most cherished memories across the community.
What Sets Me Apart
Fully Custom Approach: Every single bake is designed specifically for the client. I love collaborating on inspiration photos and custom color palettes to ensure the desserts match the event’s exact vibe.
Art Meets Flavor: Desserts shouldn’t just look stunning in photos; they have to taste incredible, too. I put just as much care into the flavor and quality of every bite as I do into the visual details.
Community Connection: Being a home-based cottage food baker allows me to offer a personal, boutique experience. My clients aren’t just getting mass-produced sweets—they are getting a dedicated creative partner for their celebrations.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
I’m a GenX kid. I grew up with the sound of screen doors slamming, the metallic taste of water straight from a green garden hose, running through the sprinkler until your skin was pruned, and the absolute freedom of not having to check in until the streetlights flickered on. It was a simpler, entirely carefree kind of magic. I haven’t quite felt that same weightless freedom as an adult & I miss that. Adulthood comes with running a business, keeping track of a million moving parts, deadlines, and responsibilities that mean the streetlights coming on just signal it’s time to prep for tomorrow’s orders rather than head home.
