Check Out Amber Caldarona’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Caldarona.

Hi Amber, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Photography started as a simple Mother’s Day gift. My family gave me my first camera, and what began as a fun hobby quickly became something I truly loved. At the time, I was also a cheer coach, so I spent a lot of time photographing my cheerleaders, friends, and family. For several years, photography was simply something I enjoyed doing whenever I had the chance.

About four years ago, I joined a local photography club to meet other photographers and learn from those with more experience. That decision completely changed the direction of my journey. I met incredibly talented photographers who encouraged me, challenged me to grow, and helped me develop both my skills and my confidence behind the camera.

As my passion grew, so did my business. What started as a hobby has turned into a career I truly love. This year marks an exciting milestone as my first year officially operating as an LLC. I’m grateful for how far I’ve come and even more excited for what’s ahead as I continue capturing meaningful moments for the amazing families, couples, and seniors I have the privilege of photographing.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the things I’m most grateful for is that my journey into photography has been a smooth one. I know many business owners face significant obstacles when they’re starting out, but my experience has been filled with encouragement, opportunities to learn, and steady growth.

That doesn’t mean I haven’t had challenges. My biggest struggle has been internal. Like many creatives, I’ve battled self-doubt, imposter syndrome, and the tendency to compare my work to other photographers. There have been moments when I questioned whether I was good enough or if I truly belonged in this industry.

Over time, I’ve learned that comparison steals the joy from creativity. Instead of measuring my work against someone else’s, I’ve focused on becoming a better photographer than I was yesterday. Every session, every client, and every opportunity to learn has helped build my confidence and reminded me why I started in the first place.

I’m thankful that what began as a Mother’s Day gift and a fun hobby has turned into a career I truly love. Becoming an LLC this year feels like the next exciting step in a journey built on passion, consistency, and the support of an amazing community. While I’m still growing and learning every day, I’m proud of how far I’ve come and excited for what the future holds.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am the owner of Amber Lynn Photography, a portrait photographer based in West Michigan specializing in high school seniors, families, couples, and weddings. While I love photographing all stages of life, senior photography has become my passion. I love helping seniors celebrate such an exciting milestone while creating an experience that allows them to feel confident, comfortable, and truly themselves.

One of the things I’m most proud of is the relationships I’ve built through my business. My goal has never been to simply deliver beautiful photos—it’s to create an experience where my clients feel valued, seen, and celebrated. Many of my senior clients become part of my Senior Rep Team, and watching them grow throughout their senior year is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.

What sets me apart is my heart for people. I strive to make every session relaxed, fun, and personal so my clients can enjoy the experience rather than worry about posing or looking perfect. I take the time to get to know each person, learn their personality, and create images that reflect who they truly are.

I’m also committed to continually learning and growing. Whether it’s refining my photography skills, improving the client experience, or finding new ways to serve the families who trust me, I believe there’s always room to grow. Photography is more than taking pictures—it’s preserving memories, telling stories, and creating images that families will treasure for generations. Being trusted with those moments is something I never take for granted.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I believe some of my greatest resources have been the people I’ve surrounded myself with. Joining a local photography club a few years ago gave me the opportunity to learn from talented photographers who were generous with their knowledge and encouragement. That community has played a huge role in helping me grow, both creatively and professionally.

I’m also a lifelong learner and enjoy taking online photography education, watching editing tutorials, and staying inspired by other photographers. While social media can be a wonderful source of inspiration, I’ve also learned to be intentional about how I use it. Comparison is something I’ve struggled with, so I’ve become more focused on learning from others rather than measuring myself against them.

On the business side, I rely on tools like Lightroom Classic, Photoshop, and Pixieset to streamline my workflow and create the best possible experience for my clients.

More than any app or book, the biggest influence on my journey has been my willingness to keep learning. I believe there is always room to grow, and that mindset has helped me continue building both my confidence and my business.
