Today we’d like to introduce you to Alli Fenwick.
Hi Alli, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was constantly stealing my mom’s camera to use growing up, and eventually started a photography business after leaving my stressful 9 to 5, just with the intent of bringing in some income. I didn’t expect to fall so in love with documenting couples and elopements out in the gorgeous beauty of Michigan.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been an unbelievably smooth journey. Perfecting my craft and growing as a self taught photographer has had it’s bumps, like trying to find and reach the couples who want the warm, romantic, documentary type of photography I offer, but pushing through has felt like the only option with how much I love doing this.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I photograph couples in a documentary type style, using invisible direction to create a fun experience. My style is warm, romantic, and nostalgic. I am most proud of my ability to make anyone comfortable in front of my camera. Countless couples have told me they are awkward in photos but none of them have stuck by that declaration after working with me. I am different in the way that I make people feel comfortable in front of the camera. And also the way that I serve them in getting them the pictures that they are dreaming of; not serving my own portfolio desire, as I see a lot of photographers tend to do these days.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
The credit goes to my husband, Aaron, who has supported me endlessly and pushed me to take the leap into full time photography.
Self taught means I didn’t know how to do this, I just figured it out as I went. And I have loved now, advising and helping out other beginning photographers in ways that no one did for me.
