Check Out Alley Fenton’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alley Fenton.

Hi Alley, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I got into the world of photography when I was just a kid–I remember saving up for 2 years to buy my first camera, and following my brother’s baseball team around taking photos. That’s how I learned to use my camera and unintentionally began marketing as I sent photos to all the baseball player’s parents. Eventually, I was asked to do more and more photoshoots just from word-of-mouth. And one day a friend that I love very much looked at me and said, “Just start the photography business. I don’t know why you’re considering doing anything else.” That is when AFP began and it pretty quickly turned into the wedding photography company that it is today!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I think anytime you have a small business, it’s going to be a lot of work, and that has mostly been my experience. To say there have been hardships wouldn’t be accurate, but there have been a lot of sleepless nights! It’s been a huge blessing to be as busy as I am, but my 10pm coffees have become a running joke to my instagram followers!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
True-to-life wedding photography is the heart of what I do, and what couples are looking for when they come to me. It has been such a blessing to provide my couples with these memories that will last way beyond their wedding day! My goal is always to capture the moment in a way that allows the day to live on for years and years to come without feeling dated!

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I think the biggest shift that we are already in the middle of is the AI changes coming into photography and editing. I think AI has already become such a critical part of many photographer’s workflow and that will likely continue over the next several years. Beyond that, as creatives, I think photographers will find new and unique ways to bring that humanity back to photography in creating different aspects of photos that only a human can do. While AI is a tool that many creatives use for their businesses, I think creatives also have a little bit of “rebel” in them where as a collective whole they’ll likely find ways to push back against AI at the same time.
