Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexys Skolnik

Hi Alexys , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My husband and I moved to Michigan in 2018 with our son. I started doing bridal makeup for friends shortly after our move. It slowly progressed into much more than makeup. As a previous art student, I began to pick up painting again. I then started offering live paintings for weddings. After a few live paintings, I started offering watercolor portraits of guests at weddings. That’s when I considered myself a true wedding artist. I now offer bookmarks for seating charts and favors, hand painted unity candles, live paintings of the couples first kiss, guest portraits, venue paintings, bridal bouquet paintings, and bridal makeup. I even offer post wedding paintings. Along with the artistry side of things, I like to paint abstract pieces, create word portraits, and paint pet portraits.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Having a wonderful support system has made this dream of an artist a reality. It’s the struggle of believing in myself and my abilities that can get in the way. Does this look good? Do you think people will like it? Should I really consider myself an artist? Those thoughts pop up, and I have to shut them down. I just keep moving forward and the rest falls into place.

I am an artist. I am best known as a wedding artist. I am proud to offer many different options when it comes to adding art to your wedding day. My ability to be creative, while being meticulous makes me the artist I am today.

I am 31 and a mom. Being a mom has helped me become a better artist and business woman. It helps me with communication and understanding.
