Today we’d like to introduce you to Alessandra Ryan.
Hi Alessandra, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
This all started when I was in school for my MBA at Huntington University. I had a business idea that my professor had loved and he believe in me, so he encouraged me to actually start an LLC while being an MBA student. So, I did! That business is called Luz Creative. Luz Creative’s mission is to “illuminate the Good News happening within communities through social media.” And what that practically looks like is that we actively serve non-profits and ministries. While serving with them and experiencing the impact, we document the good work that is being done in the organization and share it to social media. This brings awareness and invites others t0 join in on those specific organizations mission by serving or giving to them. What we learned after 2 years of working with non-profits, is that they aren’t willing to hire out content creators. So, in order to fund this mission to serve non-profits, I had to get creative, which is where Events with Luz came in! I had been to so many weddings over the years for friends and grew to absolutely love weddings. I also saw a common need, the need was for someone to capture behind the scenes, raw content of the wedding day. I began to see that wedding content creators were emerging in bigger cities and there wasn’t many within my area, so I decided to combine my passion of content creation and my love for weddings, and I became a wedding content creator.
The name “Luz” means “light” in spanish. This name stems from my first missions trip to Guatemala. I held a baby girl names Luz who had a disease in which she was not going to live much longer. Even though she was just a baby, she was a light to me and I made a promise that if I ever start a ministry, I will name it after little Luz who I met in Guatemala.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing has been smooth about this journey. I started the business with a team of 4 (including myself) and 1 of the team members happened to be my boyfriend. While building the business together, my boyfriend and I broke up. It was DEVASTATING and had no idea how I was going to move forward because not only did my team disperse, but also my community of friends divided. It was so challenging that I felt almost paralyzed and unable to move forward with the business. As I was trying to heal from the breakup, I had the opportunity to work for a church. The church came along at a great time where I was in need of community and guidance. I began working there and put my business on pause. I knew I was still called to build the business, and I expected to come back to it at some point. Within 6 months of working for the church, I was actually let go in a very hurtful fashion. I was deeply saddened. After a significant breakup with the man who I had thought, I was going to marry, I was then fired from my job. It was one of the most challenging seasons of my life. I was dealing with loads of self-doubt and felt incompetent to get back into building the business. However, the right people and support came in my life, and I jumped back into building Luz Creative. I finally decided I needed to make a transition into a more lucrative industry, from non-profits to weddings in order to sustain my business and to be able to pour into the non-profits in the future. In order to get the ball rolling with weddings, I began capturing content for weddings for free just to practice and to develop a portfolio! For almost a year I was investing my time, talents and treasures into Events with Luz with no payments in return! It was challenging to say the least and my patience was tested. =

I am grateful that I have been able to build a sustainable business that will support my husband and our family. Now that we have built this profitable and successful business, my husband and I can now go do what our original mission was, which is to serve non-profits and ministries and share on social media the good work they are doing. The work of Events with Luz has a deep purpose. The earnings we receive from our work with weddings allows us to give back and serve the communities and people we believe need it most.
We are set apart because we aren’t doing this for ourselves. We are doing this for the sake of Jesus and the expansion of the Kingdom of God. We are committed to making disciples of all nations and we believe that through content creation, we can join God in the good work He is doing in our local and global communities.
