Today we’d like to introduce you to Alessandra Finelli.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I always use to say “I did’t find the photography..it was the photography to find me”.
To be honest, never in my life would I have imagined becoming a photographer. Growing up, my dream was to be a dancer, and for many years, I actually was. My days were spent between company rehearsals and teaching, but life has a strange way of changing your path.
Then I injured my knee, and at the same time, I started suffering from panic attacks. This made me realize that I needed to change something.
I was looking for a way to channel my creative urgency through a different medium. Then, by chance, a friend invited me to join the team of his magazine and lent me his camera. That was how, little by little, I managed to start leaving the house again.
people started to appreciate my vision, and over the years, through my experience in adverting, fashion, events and weddings, I. managed to fully establish my profession.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth road. I was 26 years old, so I felt I was already old to start from scratch. The hardest struggle was rebuilding my identity. For years, I defined myself only as a dancer. Turning into a photographer meant learning a completely new language, proving my worth in a highly competitive market, and learning to trust my vision when no one knew who I was yet. it took a lot of patience to turn a healing tool into a solid business.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Today I am a visual storyteller specializing in portraits particularly for the music industry, such as album covers and artist branding and in wedding photography.
I am mostly know for my ability to capture authentic raw emotion.
I look for the unseen details.. the rhythm and the unspoken language between people and their surroundings.
What I am most proud of is the fact that my clients truly feel understood.
Whether it’s a musician trying to express their inner world or a couple living the most emotional day of their lives, I take pride in making them feel seen and safe. For me the photography it’s a way to better understand myself and the people around me.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
My city? Naples? What I love the most about Naples is the warmth and immediate familiarity of the people, even strangers treat you in a way that makes you feel less alone in the world.
On the other hand, what I like the least is the lack of organization, with can sometimes make daily life a bit challenging
