Briana Willis of Metro Detroit on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Briana Willis. Check out our conversation below.

Briana , it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
That gluten free desserts are more expensive and that they taste bad.

Which is entirely false.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Briana Willis and I am the founder of Sweet Bree’s Bakeshop, a boutique bakery specializing in all things gluten free, especially cakes!

Everything is scratch-made from local seasonal fruits, Michigan beet sugar, etc. (as much as possible).

Sweet Bree’s is my passion project. I have many ideas and aspirations for the bakery, but my time is limited since I work a full time job.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
My father was a tremendous influence on me. He wasn’t a lazy person and was always working on something. He had a strong work ethic and pride in what he did.
I have the same work ethic almost to a fault-always saying yes or taking on more, doesn’t allow a ton of down time.
I’m currently working on setting some boundaries and I tell myself that I don’t always have to say yes if it isn’t something that serves me.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of failing. I still am learning that it doesn’t hold as much power as I think.
I have to remind myself, that if I fail at a decorating technique, it’s not the end of the world.
I step back and take a break, start over, and try a different approach.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
Electronics and AI are not helping us as a society. They are a hindrance to true creativity.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
When I’m in my creative space with a cake to decorate, listening to some good tunes, with all the time I need.
I love the vibe of what I’m about to create.
