We’re looking forward to introducing you to Minerva Moon. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Minerva, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Creation brings me true joy. To take the vision in my mind’s eye and turn it into a tangible object is incredibly fulfilling. I live for the days I can wake up, pour myself a cup of coffee and immerse myself in that vision – usually a sewing project or an intricate jewelry piece. I like to gather my materials beforehand, so everything is there as it’s needed and I can just dissolve into the flow of becoming. When I am finished, I feel settled within myself, I feel like my world is balanced again.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Minerva and I pride myself on making things you don’t often see anywhere else! I remember being a young baby bat and not seeing the jewelry or clothing I wanted to wear in stores (even at Hot Topic!) and when I did find it, it was poor quality. I make the things I wanted when I was younger and still want today. My vibe is “gothic loveliness”. Currently, I am prepping for fall fairs and bringing some new jewelry and textiles to my Emporium!
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My dad!! He has shown me true unconditional love and support my entire life. He knew I was going to be a force to be reckoned with, so he never told me who I should be or what I should do with the time I’ve been given. He gently and lovingly taught me the skills, fortitude and patience to get everything I want out of life. We’re both avid gardeners, so it’s not out of pocket to say I’m the sprout he’s watered into a towering, powerful tree.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering indicates a lack of something, right? A deficit of some sort. Success gives you what you need to build up – money, influence, connections – but suffering forces you to make do with what you’ve got. To grit your teeth and get on with it, keep your chin and don’t let up until you’ve gotten the job done. When I was living on my own there were days I had $17 to my name after paying all the bills to last me two weeks. I lived through trauma, breakups, fights, financial difficulties – and all of those things taught me that I am resourceful and determined enough to get through anything.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I absolutely adore Captain America, aka Steve Rogers. He is my favorite Avenger and one of my favorite Marvel characters. He was born small and sickly, always the little guy getting bullied, but after receiving the super soldier serum he didn’t use his size, or strength to overcompensate for his years of feeling powerless. Instead he used his powers for good! He always did what he felt was right, no matter the personal cost. He is a classic vintage gentleman, always respectful but never condescending. He was protective but recognized the power in the women around him. I always cry at the end of Avengers Endgame because it’s the most romantic thing I’ve ever seen. (Spoiler alert) I almost left the theater when we went to see Deadpool & Wolverine and Chris Evans wasn’t playing Captain America, hahaha. AND he could lift Thor’s hammer when they all tried in Age of Ultron but didn’t want to take Thor’s glory away from him, and didn’t reveal it until the final boss fight. I love him.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If immortality were real, what would you build?
Everything. I would build everything I’ve ever dreamed of making. Armor, chainmail, houses, fantasy dresses, halo crowns, beautiful gardens, a hedge maze. I’d also use my immortality to build passive income and immense wealth so I could do nothing but my passion projects. It’s the stupid things like bills and the cost of living and sleep that get in the way!!
