An Inspired Chat with Melissa G of Shelby Township Mi

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Melissa G. Check out our conversation below.

Melissa, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
“I think integrity means the most to me because it’s what gives intelligence and energy their purpose. Someone can be brilliant and full of life, but when it’s grounded in honesty and good intentions, it just feels so genuine and safe to be around. That kind of energy really means everything to me.”

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Melissa, and I’ve been in the skincare industry for nearly 17 years, but my passion started long before that. I struggled with acne myself, and it pushed me to truly understand the philosophy of skin—how it works, why it reacts, and how to care for it in a way that builds confidence from the inside out.

I started out as a receptionist in a New York City skin spa, moved into management, and eventually became a licensed esthetician. Along the way, I realized something was missing: client education. People were receiving treatments but leaving without truly understanding their skin. That inspired me to dive deeper, research, and create a space where education was just as important as results.

Today, I’m proud to be a business owner, master esthetician, and educator. In my treatment room, you’ll not only receive customized care—whether it’s my facials, consultations , or advanced aesthetics—but you’ll also leave knowing more about your skin than when you walked in. Right now, I’m also focused on expanding into more things so I can reach and empower even more people. Right now that’s all I’ll share as it’s been in the works for some time .

What makes my work unique is how personal it is; I combine my own experience, years of expertise, and a genuine passion for helping people feel confident and cared for. For me, skincare is more than treatments—it’s self-care, self-love, and knowledge that can change the way you see yourself and feel about yourself .

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Oh wow , this is a very good question ahaha. When bonds between people break, it feels like a piece of your heart gets torn away am I right ? At least for me it does haha. —misunderstandings pile up, trust shatters from betrayal, or you just drift apart as life pulls you in different directions. Maybe you stop talking, let resentment build, or get caught up in jealousy or lies, and suddenly, someone who felt like so close to you becomes a stranger. That hurts. Especially when there’s no resolution at that time. But I truly feel you can heal all that. It’s like tending to a wilted plant lol even though I do not have a green thumb. I’ll try to keep that plant alive as long as I can haha but ….. sometimes it just dies . I don’t give up though . I feel like you have to start with raw, honest conversations—laying bare your hurts and hopes right there on the table . Trust rebuilds slowly, through consistent actions: showing up, keeping promises, and really listening. Forgiveness isn’t easy, but it’s a gift you give each other to let go of the pain. I’ve learned to forgive myself in situations and it was hard to do sometimes . Sometimes, talking to other people helps untangle the mess. It takes time, patience, and both of you choosing to fight for the connection/relationship , but when you see something positive happening in return, it’s like finding your way back to someone you thought you’d lost forever.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Wow , another really good one . Suffering taught me resilience, empathy, and the value of perseverance through hardship. It showed me how to find meaning in struggle, appreciate small victories, and connect deeply with others’ pain. I’m an empath and I feel like my struggles are why I’m so empathetic. I wouldn’t change that for the world . When it comes to success it definitely breeds confidence, but suffering builds character, humility, and a grounded perspective that no amount of achievement can replicate. I truly believe only through the fire do you gain true strength and clarity. I would suffer over and over again if I knew I’d end up the person I am today .

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
Haha I believe aliens are real ! Obviously I can’t prove that or else I would haha.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Absolutely and I love this question! I could give everything my best even if no one praised me for it. I do that every single day. I’ve never been praised for it haha. The drive to pour my heart into my work comes from a deep sense of purpose, not the need for applause. When I commit to something—whether it’s a project, a goal, or helping someone—I feel this fire inside to do it with all I’ve got, because it’s about living up to my own values and knowing I’ve made a difference, however small. There’s a quiet pride in pushing through late nights or tough challenges, not for recognition, but because it matters to me to leave things better than I found them. I try at least . I hope that without having to be praised people know this . That feeling—of giving my all for something bigger than myself—is what fuels me, even if no one ever sees it.
