We’re looking forward to introducing you to Kay Harper . Check out our conversation below.
Kay, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What are you chasing, and what would happen if you stopped?
I feel like I’m chasing my destiny. It feels like I was born to sing…write…and connect.
If I stopped I think everyday would feel mundane, I would lose sense of my purpose.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Kay Harper. I write and perform music that comes from real life — the good parts, the hard parts, and everything in between. Songwriting has always been how I make sense of things, and I try to keep my music honest and relatable rather than polished for the sake of it.
What matters most to me is connection. I want people to hear a song and feel like it could be their story too. I don’t try to fit into a specific box or trend — I just write what feels true and let the music be what it is.
Right now, I’m focused on writing new songs, performing, and continuing to grow as an artist. Music has always been personal for me, and I’m grateful any time it resonates with someone else.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I think a lack of understanding is what breaks bonds between people. When we can’t see things from each other’s perspective, it creates distance. Then add in lack of empathy and we become numb to the feelings of others.
Music can be something that restores that connection, which is what I love about it. A song can help someone feel understood or help two people meet in the middle when words alone fall short.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I almost give up all the time. My progress is slow but steady but I do yearn for more. I second guess my path… then remember if I weren’t doing this I’d still be doing this.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
t’s foundational for me that people are people. Every person has fears, dreams, and complex feelings and thoughts, even when we don’t see them or understand them right away. Remembering that shapes how I move through the world and how I connect with others — especially through music.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What will you regret not doing?
I’ll regret not getting all of my original music out into the world. There are songs I haven’t been able to record yet that have strong messages, and keeping them to myself would feel like leaving something unfinished. I want to let the music live beyond me and reach the people who might need it.
