Good morning Joseph, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
If we’re not finding things that bring us joy outside of work, we’re in trouble. That’s why I’m always looking for things that are life-giving. One of those things I’ve recently refound that brings me joy is going to concerts. I used to go all of the time and then I stopped. Lately, I’ve hit up multiple concerts. I’ve been able to see bands that had broken up and gotten back together. It’s a blast seeing your favorite musicians on stage.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m an award-winning leadership blogger. I’ve been doing this thing for over 10 years and love every minute of it. I help leaders discover the hidden leadership lessons in movies and the world around us. I’ve written multiple books including Reel Leadership and The Unofficial Guide To Leadership According To Rambo. I’m also an avid runner (I’ll be running the Tokyo Marathon in March 2026 to help end the global water crisis: teamworldvision.org/participants/joerunstokyo).
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
Oh man… I remember believing that I was unworthy. Unworthy of friendship. Of love. Of being happy. The longer I’ve been around, the less I believe it. There’s still struggles and challenges but that constant doubt, fear, and anxiety are a lot less quiet these days.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
You have something to offer the world. You were made for something more than you believe right now. Don’t let your doubts hold you back.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
I believe so. I strive to be as authentic as possible online and in person. I believe if I’m not honest in who I am, I’m robbing the world of something great. So are you.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I want the story to be about my love of my family, God, and those around me. In all honesty, the work that I do matters but not as much as those three things.
