An Inspired Chat with Jason Freeman of Detroit

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jason Freeman. Check out our conversation below.

Jason, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
A proud moment I have had recently is when my artwork was on display at the Goddess Fit Fashion Show. There were models walking on the runway with my canvas art as well as copper work.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Jason Freeman. I am a multi-media artist. My brand is Jay Free Media and I provide digital media services. I have a background with working in the film and music industries when I lived in California and Georgia.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My Grandmother Freeman saw me before I could clearly see myself. I remember when I was a young child, she had this electric piano keyboard upstairs… positioned right outside of her room. I used to play on it for hours. That helped with my audio journey.

Is there something you miss that no one else knows about?
One thing that I miss that no one else knows about is the feeling of being part of a great collaboration. With my film background, I’m used to working with different teams to produce a complete project from the beginning to the end. There were times I have worked on a film set with an all Chinese crew and I had to use google translate to communicate. Even with a language barrier, there was still a commitment to complete a quality project. I will find ways to get that feeling back in the near future.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Is the public version of me the real me? I don’t know lol. To be honest, I act differently depending on what ever setting I am in. Sometimes I may be laid back and not roam around much. Sometimes I am a social butterfly and try to talk to everyone in the room. It may depend on what event that I am attending. But overall, I believe the “core” me is always present in the public eye.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I am in the garden, in nature, (Minus the mosquitos), or creating artwork in a creative space.
