We’re looking forward to introducing you to Chef Cheyenne. Check out our conversation below.
Cheyenne, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me is waking up around 7:30am and taking my daughter to school then proceeding to go to work. After I get off work at four o’clock I try to fit in play time with my daughter, my classwork and my business in 2 hour increments.
My business as far as completing orders coming up with new ideas or just doing content.
So time really varies when it comes to my business. But with all of that, we do squeeze in family dinner and movie time
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Cheyenne, and I am the Owner and Head Chef of
A Taste of Exquisitry (A.T.E) I am 28 years old with a five year old daughter and currently, I am in school to be a Holistic Health Coach
A Taste of Exquisitry is where I create art with desserts when it comes to the flavor profile, colors, and design! I make everything from scratch from the cakes to the toffees, ganache and caramel.
I enjoy crafting pastries simply because I get to control how much sugar and salt goes into the pastry
I can let my creativity flow and make an 8 component pastry that not only look delicious, but taste amazing with half the sugar these stores have.
I strive for making guilt free pastries i strongly believe with everything happening in the world, food and desserts should be the LEAST of our worries! And that’s where my business come in!
My business is American, European style and it combines the bold flavors with Europe’s light and airy cakes, and designs to not only bring something magnificent but a dessert that dont give you that heavy sensation!
A dessert should never be in a negative thought, nor should one ever feel bad and ashamed for eating such a blessing!
I created this business to change the definition america has on what a dessert is!
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
Me developing a relationship with jesus shaped how I see myself! Before I was this quiet, shy, broken, powerless girl who felt lost and unwanted in the world. As times changed and years past, depression was growing over me like a dark cloud and I felt so alone, and that is when my bond with jesus began to strengthen, because I knew one thing forsure is that he loves me and he wouldn’t bring me into a world if I didn’t have a purpose to serve
And knowing that I am walking in the path that he has destined for me Is the best feeling one could ever have
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There was multiple times where I wanted to give up on my business. Times was tough, money was not in reach and the business required so much time, effort and money for the startup, finding customers and understanding what people want. All of it was just becoming too much for me and what made me realize that having this business was my purpose and that it was written in God’s will was how heavy my heart, mind and soul felt at the thought of giving up the business, and even with the thought of giving up the business, it could never happen. It felt like I was trying to part ways from myself, like splitting from my soul. Every time I thought about giving up and thought i was serious and final, I cried for a long time, really hard! It just felt very painful and hard to do. It didn’t feel like a choice I was allowed to make, it seemed as though this is bigger and much greater than me and how I feel.
That’s when I understood that my purpose is to carry out God’s plan!
Custom built for me, destined for me!
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
So my business is obviously desserts at this point in time. A belief that I used to hold on tightly to that is now naive is the fact that I thought it was about having good ideas, good prices and items having a purpose. But as I continue to go through this business and continue to be in different areas, I realized that it’s always about the people you know. You can work hard for the rest of your life and get nowhere or you can start right off the gate and already know people and your business is doing 10 times better than someone who’s been in business longer than you.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Have you ever gotten what you wanted, and found it did not satisfy you?
Have I ever gotten what I wanted, and found it wasn’t satisfying?
Yes and I realize as humans with free will, often times we ask for things, get them, then want more or different, which is a norm. To be satisfied for what you got, you have to be thankful, humble and appreciative.
Constantly remind yourself where you were and where you’re at now.
