We recently had the chance to connect with Caleb Silvers and have shared our conversation below.
Caleb, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me right now is the life of an active duty Sergeant in the Army. I wake up early, drink my coffee, work hard, and then come home. My night consists of studying scripts, working out, auditions, and planning my next day. It is like having two full time jobs, but I’ll never stop doing what I love! I’ll stay motivated and push for a successful life.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Caleb Silvers and I’m 30 years old. I am an actor, director, and producer. I’m a Telly Award winner. I’ve been working on films professionally for about 12 years now. Unlike many film makers, I have to take breaks from the industry while I’m traveling for the Army. This country comes first and I’m proud to serve. Right now I’m working on 5 feature films and 2 music videos during my free time. I’m currently booked until next spring!
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I was about 14 years old when I bought my first video camera. I remember saving up for it with my paper route money. I started filming everything in sight. I would make these goofy videos with my family and uploaded them to YouTube. It was at those moments that I felt so encouraged to pursue my career in film.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
About 3 years ago I was in an accident that nearly ended my life while serving in the Army. I remember losing a big role in a name brand commercial due to my injuries which were clearly visible. I couldn’t land a role while I looked all banged up. I was devastated and didn’t know if I’d ever pick up where I left off. I had one more upcoming role and had to inform the director (Ben Gresko) that I didn’t look the same for the role. My face was covered in scabs and I had a sling on my arm. He said, “No problem! I’ll just write in the script that you got into a car accident.” That moment gave me hope and I never looked back from there. Although my body struggles daily, I will never stop doing what I love most.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
You have to look perfect. You have to go to school for this. Those both are false claims.
Your unique look could actually get you casted into a role. It’s okay to have flaws. You are perfect just the way God made you!
You don’t have to go to school. Get out there and gain experience hands on. Tryout for student films and independent projects. Stay dedicated and perfect your art. Like anything else, practice makes perfect!
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
