Life & Work with Arjun Singh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Arjun Singh.

Hi Arjun, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My passion is music, which I was lucky to have nurtured at an early age in school. I come from a mostly non-artistic family which is more of a business lineage, but I was equally lucky to have their support and understanding of my dreams.

Somewhere during high school, I discovered the production of music through computers, and it began a self-taught journey from there. Along the way, mentors and lifelong friends appeared through serendipity, many who have stayed in my life to this day.

My family is Punjabi (Sikh), and I come from very strict parents. I love learning, but had always been both reluctant and at odds with the modern school system. Originally I had wanted to take a gap between school and travel to Los Angeles and Hollywood to break into producing music, but under a promise to finish college to my father, I instead balanced it out by finishing school at U of M with a late graduation. I really tested my family’s patience to the limit, but a promise made is a promise kept.

Music has been the greatest education in my life. The friendships and experiences I have acquired from it are something money cannot buy, and I truly believe music to be a bridge for humanity. It is the one field which truly has a place for every walk of life – regardless of race, wealth, or demographic.

In terms of my music repertoire, I have been fortunate to have won and appeared on national circuits for producing, have been behind charting music as well as high-volume streaming, and have also worked with high-profile hip-hop acts.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I would say nothing is a smooth road. No one’s life is all roses or easy, especially in the arts…however, the one thing I would say is that the biggest struggle for me has always been internal. It’s the struggle to overcome oneself.

What I’ve learned through music is that there is so much that has nothing to do with the music, which makes great art.

To find one’s voice and figure out where one belongs, that is the true challenge. It’s something I’m still working on, and I’m fortunate to have the right people around me to help guide the way.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have produced across multiple genres of music, such as rock, pop, hip-hop, and world. Being Indian, I also happen to be aware the representation I carry for my culture, and wish to do so the best I can in a way that is not only beyond myself, but where the greater community can also be proud of. There aren’t very many Punjabi or Sikh’s across the multi American genres of music, so I would just like my contribution in the arts to uphold a positive impact for others from that larger community.

Any big plans?
My plan is to keep going and my goal is to one day pay it forward and help children of all backgrounds achieve their dreams, in the way others have been involved in my life with the guidance of my dreams.
