Rising Stars: Meet Lauryn Nichole

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauryn Nichole.

Hi Lauryn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My name is Lauryn Nichole, I’m an upcoming recording artist from Pontiac, Mi. Since a young age, I’ve always loved everything about performing arts and entertainment. I started off dancing at 2 years old and even though I’d end up being a background dancer or professional choreographer one day. I ended up injuring myself and could no longer dance for about 3 years. Within those 3 years, I really discovered my voice and learned that people actually liked how it sounded. I remember being so scared and unconfident back then in my singing voice that I used to freeze anytime someone asked me to sing for them. Even though I was scared, there was something in me that made me feel like I was meant to do this. So, I continued singing and event eventually got into writing my own songs. Fast forward to now, I’m turning 19 and have gone to two music schools, Brandon Smith’s “Star Factory” and Shirley Smith’s “Journey Music Studios”. These schools are what truly helped me transform into the artist I am today and I couldn’t be more grateful for that.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has most definitely not been a smooth road for me. In fact, it’s been the complete opposite. Choosing to be an artist is such a hard job and challenge to conquer. Especially in a society where that’s not the most supported career path. Artistry is deeper than the surface level recording music and looking cute. It takes so much investment, emotionally, physically, financially, and mentally. It’s hard to put your story out there and pray that people relate, connect, and/ or like it in general. I wouldn’t trade doing this job for the world though. Music is truly what has gotten me through life and has given me the strength to keep going and to not give up on my purpose. I’m going on 4 years strong with this music things and have come so far from where I began. The people I’ve met and connected with over the years have been so fulfilling. Strangers telling me my music has saved their lives and telling me my story has truly impacted them is the best feeling in the world. It reminds me of my “why”, why I choose to continue this journey because I know there’s so many people out there who feel alone. So, if I can help it, I want to be a voice for the people and make a positive change in this world.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an alternate pop recording artist, singer-songwriter, mental health advocate, dancer, and entertainer. I’m known for writing about mental health topics and really going deep into personal situations and turning that pain into art. I’m most proud of being brave and telling my story no matter how embarrassed or ashamed I felt about it initially. Our experiences are what shape us into who we are and speaking about the not-so-good experiences is hard. Speaking about it gives people the okay to have an opinion and that’s scary. As I’ve grown up though I truly feel I’ve found my voice. I won’t allow someone else to invalidate me or my story and I think there’s true beauty in finding that voice and standing up for yourself. What sets me apart from others? Honestly, I feel like everyone is unique in their own way, all I know is that I have a mission to make a change by continuing to speak up about my experiences and continuing to encourage others to speak up, find their voice, and tell theirs.

What matters most to you? Why?
Impact. Impact has always meant the most to me. It’s not about money, it’s not about clout or fame or followers. It’s about impacting people one by one and making a difference in their life. I wish the little girl in me had a voice to speak up to the people who’ve hurt me. I found that voice through music. I believe I can help others find their voice through music too.
