Rising Stars: Meet Lakiesha Reynolds

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lakiesha Reynolds.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey of becoming a Nail Technician started in the year 2020. Ever since I was a teen, I’ve loved the art of nails. I have loved the different styles, textures, and the way nails make a person feels after completion, but I never once dreamed of being a nail technician myself. In the year 2021, I gained aspirations of becoming a nail technician. I started by buying everything I could afford, like a nail clipper, nail files, an emery board, enhancement kits, etc. After purchasing everything I could, I started practicing every day. (Shout to my friends & family members). After practicing for a year, I decided to enroll in P&A Scholars Beauty School in Detroit, Michigan. After my first week of classes, I wanted to give up instantly. In my mind, I kept doubting myself because my creativity level was not as good as I had hoped. I wanted everyone to compare my work with the nail technicians on Instagram. After a couple of weeks, I wanted to quit, but thanks to my support system, which pushed me to keep going. They took all the messy nails, cuts, and the not so “perfect” nail set’s just for me to be as good as I am today. I am very grateful and blessed to have their support.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Honestly, it has not been a smooth road at all, many nail technicians will show you the pretty nails, the money, and the precise creative content, but not the downside of Keeping a consistent clientele.

Being a nail technician is hard sometimes simply because you have to know what to look for when taking on new clients. It’s more to just creating a beautiful set simply because that beautiful set will not last on severely damaged nail beds. You have to be able to take care of the client’s natural nails before the start of any nail enhancement.

One of the biggest challenges was learning that I can’t please every client I service. I had to learn that not everyone will walk out satisfied as long as I know I gave my best work 100% I’m fine with that.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am nail artist who strives to provide the best service for my clients. I specialize in healthy natural nails and acrylic extensions. I’m most known for my nail art (thanailartqueen) I love to take all forms of art and put it onto nails. What I’m most proud of is me for not giving up even when I wanted to. The thing that sets me apart from other nails techs is being myself, and staying humble at all times.
