Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Guynes.
Hi Ashley, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Oh gosh lol where do I start?!? I went away for college (thee Howard University) graduated and never came back home. Worked in DC then moved to Tennessee for work. Tennessee is where I along with my sister started a personal chef and catering business (A2020reservation). We did brunches from Nashville to Atlanta to Philly! We were doing really well, but I always said if they bring back the Michigan central station I would then come back home. Well, one day I saw the article – it was happening!! At the same time, I had A vision for a business – custom create your own pizza business with the best toppings like no other pizza establishment. This was also the same time the avenue of fashion was coming back to life. So, I picked up the phone, called my aunt, told her my business idea, and convinced her that this was it! She’s been an entrepreneur in Detroit since I was Born so I just knew I wanted to partner with her. Now I’ll rewind to say I’ve actually tried to convince her of other ideas but she actually took this one lol. She instantly started looking for a building on Livernois, because we knew where we wanted to be. I said Ok you take care of that and I’ll handle applying for grants. I went on to apply for motor city match, which the first time we did not receive a grant, but we tried again and won!!! That in itself has been a huge blessing; not only did we win but we gained so many amazing business relationships (one mostly important our inventors Invest Detroit). While this may all sound amazing, we’ve definitely been through our shares of ups and downs, from having to find new buildings, permit issues, architectural issues, etc but we haven’t let anything get in our way!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not!!! Haha from losing our grant and having to compete again, to having our old building leased from up under us…permit issues. It’s been a whirlwind but each time we fight back and push through. We have really been favored on our journey and we look forward to opening to finally share this passion of ours.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Well, I currently Work for Asurion as a Master data management manger. I also Do private chef work(A2020Reservation). The chef work is where I shine, it’s my Mona Lisa – I love It! Self-taught but can finesse a plate-like no other. I feel like I was made for it! After all my great grandfather was a chef for president Ronald Regan on the train, he always rode for traveling.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
The industry will be all pizza haha no just kidding. The trend of pics and food will continue to rule.
