Today we’d like to introduce you to Aden Waun.
Hi Aden, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My music career began in the wake of a major loss. In high school, my father passed away, and it turned my world upside down. I found myself lost, desperately searching for something to hold onto. Thankfully, I had friends who introduced me to new hobbies that helped me distract my mind while I navigated the grief. Among these, I discovered skateboarding, punk music, and, most importantly, playing guitar—an interest that has sparked a fire in my heart.
I started with the basics on an acoustic guitar, like most beginners do, and quickly fell in love with it. As I got better, I began exploring different genres, particularly punk varieties, and discovered subgenres I hadn’t even known existed (pop punk being theost influential). After a few years, I had become a decent guitarist, and that’s when I formed my first band with Josh and Jacob Parsons. (Our drummer, Phillip, came along later after a few other attempts.)
We realized early on that we needed a bassist, and, well… I was deemed to become that bassist. The reasoning was simple—I had the biggest hands of the group and, at the time, was the least skilled guitarist. At the time I saw this as being “demoted,” but honestly, I couldn’t be more grateful for it. I’ve grown to love the instrument far more than any six string I’ve ever picked up and am so thankful for that unexpected turn.
We went through a few drummers before finally finding Phillip DeLaSotta, a wild, manic force of nature behind the kit. He was the perfect fit, and that’s when we officially settled on the name Skitchfall. The name comes from a skateboarding technique called “skitching,” where a skateboarder grabs onto the back of a car or other vehicle to hitch a ride. We tried this in a parking lot with Jacob driving and me being the willing (and gullible) test dummy. After shouting, “Gun it!” I quickly ate concrete, ripping up my clothes and skin. A few rounds of hydrogen peroxide later, we had a memory that would eventually have a lasting impact for the foundation of what Skitchfall is.
As for my journey on bass, I started with a ‘Stingray’ bass before eventually moving to a ‘Fender P.’ I actually wrote all the bass parts for “Get It Together” on that very P Bass, which remains one of my favorite instruments. And that’s my story for how I ended up as the bassist for Skitchfall.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest struggle, and I’m sure most of us have this one, is managing everyday life while also trying to manage other passions. Juggling college, work, other hobbies, and family struggles with managing/performing in a band is definitely the biggest hurdle I’ve come across. These difficulties are nothing compared to the joy I’ve found in being in this group. The stress and challenges float away when I get lost in the joy of performing music.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
While the bills know me as a sandwich artist, I am a bassist at heart. I play bass and create all of the artwork for Skitchfall. All of our flyers, social media posts, and animations on Spotify come from my little brain. I’m most proud of what we’ve accomplished so far, never have I ever thought we’d have created an entire album or gain any sort of audience but, I’m so thankful for being proven wrong.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success to me is finding happiness. Anyone can have it all, mansions, expensive cars, and unfathomable fortune but, at the heart of us all we crave happiness. If you are truly happy then that is what I call success.
