Today we’d like to introduce you to Tl Shively
Hi TL, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been writing young adult fantasy books for over twenty-five years and published my first one in 2016. I started with an independent publisher who introduced me to a writing community I never knew existed. I stayed with the publisher for a few years before I parted ways with them. During my time with the publisher, I met many independent authors who helped me transition from working with a publisher to being an independent author.
Since then, I have released seven books in my Sanctuary Guardian series and two books in my Spider’s Trilogy. I love fantasy and bringing my imagination to life for all my readers. I am currently working on the eighth book in my Sanctuary Guardian series, as well as the final book in my Spider’s Trilogy.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road, I have had to deal with a publisher who wasn’t communicating with me and would go months without any contact. I was lucky to have some author friends who helped me get out of my contract with them so I could independently publish my books.
I have had events where I sold my books that didn’t go as well as I had hoped, some were highly disappointing, but during each time I would remind myself of the positive happenings from each event. Maybe I didn’t sell as many books as I wanted to, but I got some networking done. An author who would give me some advice on how to market my books or another event that they knew of that could help me.
I look at each event as a learning experience, and from each one, I take away something that stays with me. Every obstacle and every challenge make me a better writer.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I write young adult fantasy about magic, Greek mythology and lots of adventure. I like writing my fantasy with a twist so that my readers won’t know what to expect.
I have my Sanctuary Guardian series with seven books published and two more to come. The next book is to be released this year. This series is about seven teenagers with powers who transform crystals into magical weapons they use in their battle with the Shadow Master and his minions.
My Spider’s Trilogy has two books published with the final one due to come out in 2026. This trilogy has it all; Greek Gods, Greek Goddesses, Atlanteans and aliens all in one story.
I am proud of my books and I would like to think my stories that I write sets me apart from all others.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was very outgoing when I was younger, I liked everyone and wanted them to like me. My imagination helped me with growing up in the country as well as the books I would read. My mother encouraged my imagination and my love of reading.
I loved fantasy above all else; when I would read or watch a show, I would want to disappear just for a short while into a completely different world. In school, my favorite room was the library, and I volunteered there as well. I was also a tomboy who loved being in the trees and creating a whole new world for myself to play in.
