Meet Stephanie Schlatter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Schlatter.

Stephanie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Growing up creative and taking art in high school I never dreamed art could be a career. I became a hairdresser. Wanting to expand my creative repertoire, I went back to college for photography in my late 20s. A photography teacher encouraged us all to take art classes to strengthen our eye and our composition. So I did, and I never looked back. Art became my passion, my career, and my hobby.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The obstacles and challenges of a creative life are well documented, and books on the subject are plentiful. The thing I most love about the journey is there is always something new to learn. Every day is about what can be done with paint and that is exciting.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a 2D plein air landscape painter. During the warm months, my studio is the great outdoors.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice for those just starting out is to remember it’s about the journey. There is no arriving and there’s always something new to learn. Your eye will always advance before your skill level. At times it can feel like you’re chasing each new challenge, but in fact, you’ve already arrived. You will keep growing, so enjoy the process and be kind to yourself.
