Meet Sarah Laman-Davis of Last Mile Cafe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Laman-Davis

Hi Sarah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Last Mile Cafe was co-founded by Arick Davis and Sarah Laman-Davis in Grand Rapids, MI. They set out to change the narrative of coffee to be more inclusive and sustainable while implementing a unique charitable giving model where 2% of all revenue is donated to community and environmental causes. After a year of selling coffee online and at local markets, they opened their cafe location in Boston Square in 2022. Since then they have begun roasting their coffees in-house.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We’ve worked hard to bootstrap, borrow, and fundraise to bring our vision for Last Mile Cafe to life. Doing so while making decisions that are best for our community and our environment has been challenging.

Despite those challenges, we’ve been able to provide a base starting wage of $16/hour for all of our employees, while also prioritizing sustainable best practices and donating back to the community.

Last Mile Cafe is a local coffee roaster committed to doing the right thing for our community and our environment. Our cafe is a great spot in the community to enjoy a cup of coffee, espresso drink, tea, or cocoa. We also offer pastries made by local bakers. Our gallery wall features paintings and photography made by artists in the community.

Additionally, we offer coffee catering services and a mobile espresso pop-up that we can bring to your business or event. We also supply bulk coffee to local restaurants, offices, hospitals, and churches.

What are your plans for the future?
We are excited to continue growing our community partnerships throughout the state. We love an opportunity to collaborate with other organizations on custom labeling, community events, and other partnerships. Please reach out if you would like to work with us!
