Meet Racquel Greene

Today we’d like to introduce you to Racquel Greene.

Hi Racquel, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am a Dye Artist. Yes, I could have said Tie Dye Artist but, I wanted to add the razzle-dazzle. Anybody can do tie-dye but trust me if it’s coming from me, it is not the same. It all started in June 2016, I distressed a pair of denim jeans from the thrift store and posted them to my IG feed. The comments went crazyyyy. I got on youtube to find more designs and ideas then a DIY Tie Dye video popped up. I said ohhhh what’s that? Watched it a few times and boom Recreated By Rocksss came along. I knew I wanted something that started with an R and Recreated made sense to me. It means to Create Again. I am RECREATING the clothing rather it was dying it, distressing and or reverse dye, etc. All the clothing is Hand Dyed, that is the excitement for me. I never know what it’s going to turn out like until I unravel it.

I want to bring more light to Tie Dye and show the world that there is more to it than your typical spiral designs boring colors. I am working on hosting classes for the youth this summer and adults’ parties as well. I want to focus more on techniques, making my own colors, and adding home decor somewhere in the future such as shower curtains, bed sheets, and maybe even curtains. Who knows? My mind is always on GO when it comes to creating.

I have so much more in store as I continue this journey. I can’t wait to bring it to life.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would honestly have to say keeping up with social media can be a challenge, making sure you are keeping the people’s attention. For me personally running a business. I don’t come from an entrepreneur background it’s always been a 9-5 for me. I am still learning as I go so that is always a good thing.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I wasn’t prepared at all for March 2019 like at all. I don’t think none of us were. I learned so much between then and now , rather it was my personal life, my relationships with friends and family. Mentally we all could use a break. I can’t count how many times I felt like why is this happening? What is going on? And how will ever get back to normal? Is this the new normal? Now that we are in June 2022 things are somewhat back in order. My plan is to make the next 6 months my best 6 months.

My advice would be to have a back up plan financially, try to stay 10 steps ahead if you can, and mental breaks are needed.
