Meet Melanie Mciver of River Rouge

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melanie Mciver

Hi Melanie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I got started in 2014. I started baking because I was out of work and already cooked a lot so I decided to see if I could make pounds cakes so that’s what I did. I started making a Superman pound cake which became a huge hit. Then I went on to do cakes and my favorite cake to make is a Strawberry Crunch Cake. Let me tell you it was not easy in the beginning but I got thru my errors and made my business official in 2018. And since then I have grown and love my growth. I bake for a lot of River Rouge School functions and have a good clientele that love my cakes and also me. I can only thank God because I was lost for a second and he blessed me with this skill to make cakes and I love what I do.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It wasn’t a smooth ride at all. I had a lot of errors with ingredients, pricing and building by own brand. Melony Cake LLC was a struggle getting started but now it’s smooth sailing for me.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a at home baker. Melony Cake LLC is my business. I specialize in baking custom cakes and cupcakes. I also do pastry tarts and sometimes chocolate treats. Im known for my Amazing Strawberry Crunch Cakes and my Superman Pound Cake. My most proud moment was being hired to make a cake in Texas for someone who only heard of me thru someone else. What sets me apart from anyone in this baking business is Me. I’m a person who takes pride in what I do for others. Making others happy makes my soul happy.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My mom Rev. Linda McIver-Blue and my dad who passed away 1/4/24 Kenneth L. Blue. They have been my major support when it comes to everything. They cheer me on and has always told me to do what makes me happy.
