Meet Brandi Taylor of Business Beauty Network

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandi Taylor.

Hi Brandi, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I’ve always had a passion for beauty and art. I have 16 years of experience in makeup artistry. After seven years of working as I makeup artist, I created a makeup artistry course. This led to speaking and teaching makeup workshops. I also offered private makeup lessons to everyday women. Teaching allowed me to scale my business.

In 2017, I founded the Detroit Business Beauty expo. I saw a need for business knowledge within the beauty industry. I created this event to educate, empower, and connect beauty pros, focusing on the business side of beauty. Helping with business structure, finance, customer service, marketing and branding, and much more. After many successful events, I wanted to expand my reach. I created the Business Beauty Network Podcast in 2019. The podcast has allowed me to have this conversation with beauty experts around the world.

I have now shifted my business to coaching. I’m a Beauty Biz Marketing Strategist. I empower beauty professionals to effectively market their brands for growth. I have a mastermind program, and course, along with a 1:1 coaching program. It’s my goal to make an impact on the beauty industry and to help them reach their business goals.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting out as a makeup artist it was hard building my business and establishing consistent clientele. I made many shifts along the way, trying to figure out where I fit in. Later I realized that I didn’t have to fit in and I could be true to myself as an artist. Focusing on doing the style of makeup that I love to do and not comparing myself to other artists.

Here are a few things I learn along the way. Pick a lane. I love clean beauty aka soft glam. So that became my lane. What I then had to get clear on was my ideal client. Understanding that I couldn’t serve everyone. Once I narrowed down my target client, I begin to attract more of them by focusing on them with my marketing.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Business Beauty Network?
The Business Beauty Network offers events, coaching, resources, and a podcast for beauty professionals. I am proud of the impact my business has had on many beauty professionals who needed help within their business, whether it was from a live event, podcast or coaching. It is my mission to see more successful black-owned beauty businesses. We stand out by spilling all the tea, actually providing real help, and giving you access to the tools you need to succeed in business.

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I have learned to be open to possibilities. You never know where life will take you. Try and fail often. Don’t be afraid to fail, because you just might succeed. But if you never try, you’ll never know.
