Meet Anita Artistry of Michigan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anita Artistry.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Anita Artistry; I am highly skilled and licensed Esthetician with over 20 years of experience in skincare. I became interested in a career as an esthetician around 2007 while searching for a new path to take. Trained under Dermatologic and Podiatric Physicians, I am well-versed in hands-on care, wound healing, and sterile procedures. I received education and certification from reputable institutions such as L’esprit Academy, DSS Laser & Aesthetics, Mid-West Laser Institute, and True U in Chicago. I also received a business degree from Henry Ford. In 2015 after years of working under Dermatologist and in Laser skincare, I decided to refocus my career goals and become a self-employed Esthetician. While building my own “brand”, I rented rooms in salons and with massage therapists. I purchased my own supplies and equipment, built my clientele and customized my Luxury Facial, in which, I am now most famous for. In August of 2023 I was able to open my business out of a private studio on my own home. This was the best decision I have made in my career. Being solo in my career is very important to me. It has given me freedom to create a space that clients love and gives an all-encompassing, artistic experience.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely been a bumpy road. They say that entrepreneurs jump and build on the way down and that is certainly true. In the beginning, just to get my name out there was a struggle. I even gave away or discounted services to get people talking. In someways, the career pool for esthetics seems over saturated. You really have to offer services that go beyond what other spas and salons will offer. I try to keep up with any new training that becomes available to help further what my business has to offer. I have always held a second job for the steady income. When you build your own business, you are not always making money. It can all go to overhead and you still have yourself and a family to support. I see a lot of estheticians giving up far too early. It takes years to build your “brand”. If you are really passionate about what you are doing, you stay the course.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I like to think I am most well-known for my Luxury Facial. My clients tell me all the time it is an experience like no other. I customize it to each client and each session with products and aromas they may not have experienced before. With the lights low, the relaxing massage and the attention to detail; my clients receive a level of care with out equal.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up I think I must have been somewhat introverted. I can’t say I was ever the life of the party but still appreciated an invitation. I have always been attentive to the needs of others, which is an important trait for an esthetician. I do remember having interests in skincare going up. Even making out own masks out of honey, egg whites and oatmeal.
