Meet Allison Elliott

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Elliott.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hi, I’m Allison! I am a wife, mama, and wedding photographer!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I started my photography journey in 2016. I started practicing daily taking photos for free of anyone that would let me. My dog was the real MVP back then. I started taking an intro to photography course at MCC to learn how to shoot manually. I ended up taking more courses than I had planned because I was having fun learning and creating with others. Then a friend of mine getting married in fall of 2017 asked me to photograph her wedding. Being trusted to capture a couple’s wedding, the most important day of their lives is a huge intimidating responsibility. I wanted to say no because I was scared to fail but I knew this was my chance to gain my first wedding experience. I put my ALL into that wedding and everything turned out great! I am forever thankful for that couple having faith in me that I could do it! I have been completely hooked on photographing love ever since. I decided to quit my job May 2018 and later that same day I found out I was pregnant! I still felt that leaving my current job was the best decision for me though, I would focus on my photography and soon being a Mom. I used to think to myself that there was already so many photographers in my area and my family would never make it without me having to go back to working a job I didn’t like. Tons of hours spent editing free to bare minimum paying shoots and now here I am preparing to shoot my 7th wedding (in New York) of 2022. I face lots of challenges everyday being a small business owner/stay at home parent. I just try to learn from all my mistakes and continue to be fearless in the pursuit of what makes me happy! I encourage others to push themselves outside of their comfort zones and try new things that make them smile.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a lifestyle and wedding photographer. Including destination weddings! Capturing love is my favorite. I like my photos to tell a story/have feelings to them.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I love to connect with fellow photographers through Instagram, photography groups, styled shoots, workshops, etc
