Life & Work with Riley Brooks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Riley Brooks.

Hi Riley, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I have always been creative and independent since I was a child. Growing up, I loved exploring all of the different creative outlets and methods the world had to offer. You could find me making things with clay, sewing, painting, or using papier mache, and believe me, the list goes on. Art was consistently my favorite class to attend in school and I often brought my projects home to work on. Sometimes I got so interested and would buy my own supplies to mimic the lessons I had been taught at school with my own projects at home. As I graduated high school and shortly after college, I was completely lost when it came to deciding which route I wanted to take for my career. However, I knew that I was happiest when I was creating. I love fashion and accessories and one day I decided to try my hand at wire-wrapped jewelry. This sparked the interest in expanding my jewelry work which led to the start of my business, Fabled by Riley.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It would be easy to say that this journey has been smooth and seamless, but that is not the reality. Making the decision to go full-time with my passion and transform it into a business was one of the scariest decisions I’ve been faced with thus far in my life. Many questions kept me up at night such as, “How will I do it? What will people think or say? What if I fail?”. But I had to constantly remind myself that I have to live my life for me, and I knew in my heart my mom would want me to chase my dream. Running a business entirely on your own can be a constant struggle. I often sit at my desk for hours on end assembling jewelry or packing orders, photographing products, updating inventory, and more all while maintaining a social media presence and responding to emails. I am my businesses’ CEO, project manager, shipping and fulfillment agent, photographer, and customer service representative. Learning how to juggle all of these positions and responsibilities at a young age has not been easy. I am however proud to say that throughout all of these “bumps” in the road, I have experienced so much growth and have grown intensely closer to my passion.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I handcraft and curate jewelry, specifically gold jewelry! I personally prefer the look of gold jewelry over silver and over the years my brand has drawn in thousands of other gold jewelry lovers like myself! Something that I take pride in is helping my customers feel confident. I love to curate towards my customers’ interests and preferences, so I offer mystery jewelry sets that are based off of the customer’s personal aesthetics. They can leave a note of their aesthetic, favorite color(s), zodiac sign, etc. and I will curate a jewelry set curated specifically to them. I love this because it allows the customer to sprinkle their own uniqueness and personality into the mix but then also allows me to have creative freedom as the artist and create a set tailored to their aesthetics.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Keeping it real with myself and my audience, and making sure I always put my happiness first. Making sure the spark which is now a fire, never dulls out or stops burning. I want to be happy while I work towards my goals and continue to grow my business. I want to feel excited, and that is exactly how I feel right now. I believe that fuels me, it pushes me to follow my dreams and to never back down no matter how many bumps in the road I come across. I am very independent and once I set a goal, I become very determined to reach it. I believe these qualities are detrimental to my success.
