Inspiring Conversations with Lamara Smith of Gxld Natural

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lamara Smith.

Hi Lamara, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today? |
At 25 years old my story now is a lot different than when I started working toward a career at 19. After my first year of college, I knew I kind of wanted to do something different and do more than what I felt a degree could provide me with at that time. At 19, I started modeling, and although a very fun experience it was not fulfilling enough. The only times where it was fulfilling were if and when I was calling the shots. I learned one thing about myself I am a leader, I am a creator/creative, and I like to be the boss. Taking that is where I started to take my entrepreneur journey more seriously. I mean growing up I looked up to women like Kimora Lee because of the empire they built and I knew one day I would build my own. The following steps from modeling into entrepreneurship were hard but not so much because. I learned a lot about branding, marketing, and running a business. Most people don’t understand but modeling is a business, you are selling yourself to designers, I took that wisdom and turned it into selling beauty products with my company Gxld Natural. Or even selling myself as an influencer to brands. Changing gears from modeling to being an influencer, and into full entrepreneurship was the best decision I made for my career. I feel it was able to help expand not only my career but the overall brand name of Mari Gxld.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Personally, with entrepreneurship and being a digital creator, the main struggle is balance. The balance between being a woman, being a wife, & being a boss. The road is not easy for any individual, but I must say the road of entrepreneurship is a bit of a rocky one. The best way to put it is no two journeys of entrepreneurship are the same. Everyone has different battles, struggles, complications, and even successes. I think personally the hardest thing is finding someone to understand the lifestyle of entrepreneurship. You may find people to relate to. Mental health overall is very important and as an entrepreneur, you have to take it seriously. in most corporate jobs it is a clock in and clocks out. But as an entrepreneur, you are always clocked in. Your job is not a 9-5, it is 9-9 or 9 am-12 pm, for the most part, your job is never really done. You have to learn boundaries that work for you and your lifestyle.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
The Gxld Brand is something I have been building for the last 6 years. My brand is mainly centered around the beauty and fashion industry. The business that came out of that brand is my vegan skincare business Gxld Natural. Gxld Natural caters to women who love to indulge in their self-care, skincare, and overall beauty. Specializing in bath and body products from body cremes, body exfoliants, bath soaks, and even face products. Gxld Natural has been successfully in business for almost 3 years and I am most proud of the growth it continues to make as a brand, As I grow and elevate, the company also grows and elevates. I believe that one of the main things that set my brand apart is that I am always trying to elevate the products or the brand for my audience. I believe there is always room for growth, especially in vegan beauty. As I learn, my brand’s products reflect that. With that being said Gxld Natural is always expanding the products to really give our customers a full luxury experience, with not just bath and body products but adding aromatherapy products to really set the vibes of a self-care night.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Being a digital creator and entrepreneur has taught me two main important things. First, People are going to think you are crazy. The lifestyle you are choosing is one of the hardest. You have to depend on yourself while also having faith in yourself. But, the real lesson in this is that you have to believe in your vision before anyone else can see your vision. The motivation in your life to live the life you want to live has to come from you. if you look for it in other people, you will always depend on other people to have the motivation you need to live. Second, we are all living in this lifetime for the first time, so don’t compare yourself. No one really has it all figured out, we are all taking it day by day. Everyone around you is learning and growing just like you are. As long as you are working toward your goal it does not matter how long it takes for you to get there. your journey is no one else’s but yours. So, live your life day by day, knowing that the life given to you is made for you and you are aligned with where you need to be.
