Today we’d like to introduce you to Remie Gasirabo.
Hi Remie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Kigali, Rwanda, in the late 1900s and moved to the States when I was still a baby. I’ve lived in the Midwest and DMV areas most of my life.
After finishing school, I realized how important it was to find a career connected to my purpose/passion. I always believed I could be a scientist, doctor, or lawyer, as my parents strongly suggested me to do. But the thought of investing so much time and energy into something I could despise always haunted me.
After a lot of real-life experiences and self-reflection, I was able to pinpoint the things in life that drive me the most: My family and spreading love first and foremost. I have no idea what life would even be without music but most importantly, connecting and building with others has been one of the most consistent patterns in my life.
All of which led me to create Flyyr Population Media and Creative Studios. With the media brand being hip-hop and consciousness influenced, the 1500-square-foot studio space was destiny. We specialize in everything from Audio Recording/Engineering, Artist Development, Photography, Podcasting, Gaming/Streaming, Event/Meeting Space & more!
Our mission is to create an affordable workspace & network for artists/creatives and small businesses in the Grand Rapids, MI area, as well as a free after-school/summer program to push the younger generation to discover their passion/careers early!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I am a true believer in everything happening for a reason. One of my favorite mantras is “No Losses Only Lessons”. So, while I have learned A LOT on this journey, I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
I’m grateful to have my strong family, friends, and loved ones as a great support system. Along with my amazing and super-talented creative team!
If I had to say there’s been any struggle, it would probably be completing our team with a videographer and graphic designer; so, if you’re one of those two and are looking for a team to grow with, I’d love to hear from you!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Flyyr Population Creative Studios is a 24-hour studio based in Grand Rapids, MI. We provide an all-inclusive creative+work space for artists and groups from all backgrounds such as artists/bands, podcasts, audio and visual production, as well as book clubs, meditation/yoga groups, and more!
Our 1500-square-foot workspace is supplied with high-quality audio production equipment like the Apollo Twin X Quad Interface along with a Neumann TLM 102 microphone. We also provide visual background support systems that include backdrops, multiple lighting options, reflectors, travel options, and more!
What I’m most proud of as the founder is the artists who are a part of the brand/team. I think the thing that sets us apart from other businesses is that we believe in community over competition. Our doors are always open to everyone from all backgrounds, especially those looking to lock in creatively. Another difference with our brand is our negotiable rates. We’re not looking to make a profit off of your creative needs. We want to make creating and building dreams a more accessible and convenient thing to do.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
