Hidden Gems: Meet Jerome Adams of Horizon Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation & Flint’s Finest Basketball Club

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jerome Adams

Hi Jerome, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey has been shaped by a deep commitment to helping people recover, move better, and reach their full potential—whether through physical therapy or youth sports development.

In 2006, I earned my Doctorate in Physical Therapy, driven by a passion for rehabilitation, movement science, and patient care. While working in the field, I noticed a need for structured basketball development in my community, which led me to establish Flint’s Finest Basketball Club in 2008. What started as a small initiative to help local athletes improve their skills has since evolved into a premier youth basketball program in Michigan, preparing players for high school, college, and beyond.

In 2012, I founded Horizon Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation with the vision of providing patient-centered, evidence-based physical therapy in Flint and Genesee County. Over the years, Horizon PT has become a trusted provider for orthopedic rehabilitation, post-surgical recovery, and sports injury treatment, helping individuals regain strength and mobility.

Today, Flint’s Finest and Horizon Physical Therapy continue to thrive—one as a top-tier basketball development program, and the other as a leading physical therapy clinic in Flint, Michigan. My goal remains the same: to empower individuals through rehabilitation, athletic development, and mentorship so they can achieve their full potential.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Success is never a straight path, and my journey with Horizon Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation and Flint’s Finest Basketball Club has had its share of obstacles.

When I launched Flint’s Finest Basketball Club in 2008, the biggest challenge was building credibility and securing resources. Finding gym space, funding, and getting buy-in from parents and players took time. However, through consistency, a strong developmental program, and a focus on mentorship, we built a reputation as a premier youth basketball program in Michigan that helps players succeed at the high school and college levels.

In 2012, I opened Horizon Physical Therapy in Flint, and like any business, establishing a patient base and competing with larger healthcare systems was a major hurdle. Many people were unaware of the benefits of physical therapy for pain relief, sports injuries, and post-surgical rehab, so educating the community became a key focus. Over time, we gained trust by providing exceptional, results-driven care, and today, Horizon PT is a trusted name in physical therapy across Genesee County.

Another ongoing challenge has been balancing the demands of running both businesses while maintaining high-quality service. Managing staffing, marketing, and operations for both a medical practice and a youth sports organization requires constant adaptation, but developing strong systems and a dedicated team has helped me navigate these challenges successfully.

Through it all, my commitment to helping people—whether recovering from an injury or excelling in sports—has remained my driving force. Every challenge has been an opportunity to grow, and I’m proud of what we’ve built.
