Hidden Gems: Meet Gen Wais of Ancient Elevation

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gen Wais.

Hi Gen, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I believe my passion and calling for bodywork stems from my time as an athlete. I grew up playing ice hockey very competitively and the sport took a huge toll on my body. Back then, recovery wasn’t prioritized or talked about very much. It was always more training and more skating. Tight muscles and lactic acid build up in my legs profoundly effected my performance, my confidence, and my overall abilities.

Once my athletic career ended and I graduated high school, I moved to Colorado where I attended Denver Integrative Massage School. I always had an interest in holistic health and I knew I wanted to work for myself. It wasn’t until I was in my program that I learned about Cupping Therapy and Muscle Scraping. I knew right away that had I known about these therapies back when I was an athlete, everything would have been different.

I became so passionate about spreading the word of these ancient modalities because I realized how much relief people could get, athlete or not. I know with all of my heart that this is my life’s work and my mission. It fills my soul with purpose to help people improve their health and the way they feel in their bodies.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a constantly evolving journey learning what my boundaries and limits are. Being a free-spirited individual, it was always very difficult for me to work as a Massage Therapist at a spa or a studio. When you’re an employee, you’re not in control of how many sessions you do in a day, how much time is in between them to reset and recover, your uniform, the room temperature… so many factors outside of your control! I never did well with that. I wasn’t happy and I thought of finding a new profession many times. My body ached, my energy was drained, and I was making other people money!

It wasn’t until I took the leap to go completely solo that everything changed and I felt aligned in my purpose again. It can be a scary transition because there are so many variables and inconsistencies month to month, but with enough ambition and drive, success is inevitable. I am truly so proud of myself for building something that is mine.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Ancient Elevation?
My business, Ancient Elevation, is all about bringing ancient healing practices into the modern world. I specialize in Cupping Therapy (fire and air), Gua Sha (muscle scraping), and Wood Therapy for both face and body sculpting.

Most of what I do is rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine, focusing on natural ways to help the body feel better, move better, and release stuck energy (Qi). It’s a unique, hands-on approach to healing that helps people feel more balanced inside and out.

Cupping Therapy helps relieve muscle tension, improve circulation, and support the body’s natural detox process. It can reduce pain, ease stress, and even boost your immune and digestive systems. The color of your marks tells me the degree of blood stagnation within your tissue.

Muscle Scraping, also known as Gua Sha, helps break up tight fascia, release tension, and improve blood and lymph flow. It’s great for relieving pain, increasing mobility, and speeding up recovery. Plus, it helps flush out toxins and brings fresh circulation to areas that need healing by causing microtrauma.

Wood therapy helps sculpt and tone the body by breaking down stored fat and cellulite, stimulating circulation, and improving lymphatic drainage. It’s also amazing for relieving tension, reducing puffiness, and helping the body naturally detox.

I also sell Cupping Sets, Gua Sha Stones, and Dry Brushes for self-care purposes. Doing these practices at home is crucial in order to maintain results and stay feeling good in between sessions.

How do you think about happiness?
First of all, I believe happiness is a choice. An intentional decision. In this day and age with so much overexposure to negativity in the news and on social media, we really have to wake up and choose happiness like our life depends on it because it does. I am naturally an anxious over-thinker. The one thing that helps me more than anything on a chemical level is exercise. Weightlifting to be specific.

Exercise is a form of biohacking. It releases neurochemicals that literally make you feel good. You get an influx of dopamine, serotonin, and endorphins. That is why it works every single time without failure. The gym has saved me more times than I can count. It helps me come back to the present moment and focus on what’s in front of me. I always leave the gym a better person and that helps me show up better in my life for my family, my clients, and my friends.

The other thing that comes to mind with this question is my beautiful dog. I have a 5 year old female Siberian husky named Mila. She is my whole entire world. Being a dog mom gives me so much purpose and peace. Mila accompanies me to work and is an integral part of my healing sessions. Her calm presence is so special and comforting for me and my clients. Everyone adores her. She completely changed my life.
