Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Sirrita Darby.
Hi Dr. Darby, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I began curating pandemic-friendly experiences in June of 2021 when I saw a need to create unique experiences for Detroiters who were struggling finding ways to celebrate and spend time with one another safely amidst the pandemic. I began with curating pop-up picnic experiences for couples and groups. She then transitioned to creating date night experiences during the nighttime where couples can enjoy a meal, each other and indulge in the many add-ons the experience offers. What began as a “hobby” has now manifested into a full-scale intimate event service, now offering a variety of experiences.
The WR Experience partners with local vendors to bring the full experience such as a Hibachi Chef who prepares the food right in front of you, to a local small bakery that supplies all the sweet treats for the date night. Her goal was to always boost the economic energy in her community by building jobs and opportunities for others.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Oh, I wish. The road has been quite bumby but I’ve definitely been enjoying the ride. The main struggles have been putting my brand into someone else’s hands and expanding efficiently. I knew my business would grow beyond Detroit but didn’t know it would take this much to get there. I’ve definitely made a few legal mistakes that have definitely been learning experiences. I now have a full team in Detroit and working to build my teams in other cities. Another struggle is understanding that every client is not the client for you. Learning how to target a specific clientele and making sure you continue to do research in your specific field.
We’ve been impressed with The WR Experience, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We curate intimate personalized luxury experiences for any occasion. We do Luxury Date nights in our Signature Bubble Tent, Hot Tub Setups, picnics, and romantic hotel room decor. What sets us apart is our setups are very unique and personalized specifically for you. Nobody else can walk into your setup and feel like it’s theirs because everything is personalized which we don’t see a lot in more intimate events.
Brand-wise we are most proud of being innovative, we have not seen other companies do what we are doing, the way we are doing it and we take pride in bringing the innovation. It doesn’t matter what you’re celebrating. We have a package to make your special day unforgettable! We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
We have learned that you should be able to adjust quickly to any sudden changes your business has to face. We also learned to be more innovative and creative in the face of adversity. Business may slow down in a crisis but it should not stop if you have a strategic plan to keep it going. Covid is the reason our business took off and we are forever grateful for that.
