Exploring Life & Business with Tajreen Sandhu of Frenchie Foundation Inc.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tajreen Sandhu

Hi Tajreen, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
The Frenchie Foundation was founded in loving memory of IkOnkar Sandhu. In his short time here with us, Onkar brought joy, humor, and light to those around him; whilst trying to navigate the adversities of life and the toll they take on our mental health. The Frenchie Foundation aspires to shine his eternal light to communities, families, and individuals through education, advocacy, and support regarding mental health.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As a nonprofit dedicated to supporting mental health, the path of setting up as a 501(c)(3) organization can present challenges, particularly in navigating paperwork and meeting IRS requirements. Furthermore, prioritizing the establishment of the organization may initially impede growth efforts, as resources are concentrated on establishing and standing up the organization rather than expansion.

In the realm of mental health support, the journey of refining our focus has been a significant challenge because mental health is such a large umbrella. However, through dedicated meetings and thoughtful deliberation, we have honed in on addiction and suicide prevention as our primary areas of emphasis. This deliberate focus showcases our commitment to making a targeted and meaningful impact within the expansive landscape of mental health support.

However, the organization’s commitment to aiding those struggling with mental health can ultimately lead to a profound and positive impact once these initial obstacles are surmounted.

We’ve been impressed with Frenchie Foundation Inc., but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Frenchie Foundation Inc is dedicated to creating a positive impact within our community by focusing on mental health education, advocacy, and support. We are committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by mental health challenges, with a particular emphasis on suicide prevention and addiction recovery.

In our commitment to making a positive impact, we promote mental health awareness by engaging in meaningful collaborations with other non-profit organizations such as the Alpha House in Detroit and Bethany House in Cincinnati. Another organization we donate to and collaborate with is Dawn Farms located in Michigan who help provide long-term treatment services to addicts and alcoholics seeking recovery.

In our efforts to promote mental health awareness, we host a variety of events throughout the year. These events serve as opportunities to raise funds, to support our collaboration partners, through activities like our annual 5k walk and volleyball tournament, all while promoting mental health awareness. Beyond fundraising, these events serve as a catalyst for community bonding, offering individuals a chance to unite, support one another, and create lasting connections. Our organization is dedicated to cultivating community engagement and a sense of togetherness throughout every season.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The most important quality to the Frenchie Foundation’s success is compassion. Compassion is at the heart of our mission, driving our commitment to mental health education, advocacy, and support. Founded in loving memory of IkOnkar Sandhu, our foundation honors his light by fostering awareness and creating spaces where mental health is openly discussed and prioritized.

Through compassionate collaboration with organizations like Alpha House, Bethany House, and Dawn Farms, we amplify mental health initiatives and promote suicide prevention and addiction recovery. Compassion also shapes the events we host, like our annual 5K and volleyball tournament, which not only raise funds but strengthen community bonds. It’s this genuine care for mental health advocacy and community connection that defines our success.
