Exploring Life & Business with Justin Smith of Spin Junkie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Smith.

Hi Justin, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I have always been the kind of person that wanted to influence goodness in the atmosphere, and my career experience has provided many of opportunities to do just that.

Post college graduation, I moved South to New Orleans with a program called Teach for America to teach Special Education. I like this piece of my story because I never knew that I was going to be a teacher until I become one.

Although I enjoyed the innovative piece of the classroom experience, I took a leap into senior care, and here is where I thought I was going to spend the rest of my time, but the Universe had different plans for me. One of the best reflections of my career experience is that all of it all of it is a transference of a passion to another transference of passion.

I really like to help others, but I wanted an inclusive space that pushed my drive for wellness, happiness, something so unique but inviting to community so the option was to go and create that space. So, I created Spin Junkie.

I opened Spin Junkie, Spin Junkie Pop Up just over 3 years ago in Lansing, Michigan. Spin Junkie Pop Up is my mobile spin studio, a super unique ride space that I get to take everywhere that I go.

One of my favorite pieces to my studio is making ultimate connections, and I truly feel like I have the best seat in the house as the Founder of Spin Junkie because I get to collaborate with other local talent, other locally owned businesses, and that part lights a spark in my heart.

Not only does my business get to highlight other community gems, but it is also a big energy that I believe every community needs. When passion and community meet, there is a lot of power to be found there, and that is limitless power.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I am an Optimist at heart but owning and operating a small business is a place that I am in constant learning mode. My business is young, my first business at that so there was a lot to learn; still learning, still growing, and I do not expect that to change.

Although I am a planner, throughout my business planning, never did a pandemic touch the draft. The pandemic brought an unexpected pause to life that I did not see coming, and this piece was challenging, but I have built my business in a way that sporadic scheduling is not unheard of.

Spin Junkie was too young to qualify for any kind of assistance, and that was tough, but I also do not have the kind of overhead that many businesses have acquired, as my business is stowed in a travel trailer. I am glad to say that Spin Junkie made it through such a trialing time, but I still remain committed to using any opportunity that is presented to me as an opportunity to grow.

I hang onto such a mindset as it is challenging to be the one running your show. I am the only coach, marketer, planner for Spin Junkie, but this is a different style of work for me, and I fuel it with the strongest of passions and big visions of health, wellness, and happiness.

We’ve been impressed with Spin Junkie, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Spin Junkie is literally a mobile, Pop-Up Spin Studio, a super unique energy that is geared to change the way we channel wellness and physical fitness. We have one of the best spots in the area here because we can set up shop in so many different locations and environments.

We pride ourselves on creating an inclusive space for all of mankind, and it is this space that allows us to collaborate with some of the most passionate and talented energies in the industry.

We are known for our big energy; it is one thing that we do not fall short on. We offer cycling classes that are welcoming to anyone that is committed to move; all ages, strengths, and goal sets are always welcomed.

One of several things that sets us apart from the others is the collaborative effort, community is everything to us, and it is truly what keeps us going.

We absolutely love to see others do good; it’s contagious and super priceless.

What do you think about luck?
Good Luck each time!

I feel lucky that this life is mine. Lucky to have a history that I use to fuel my next good intention. I believe that it’s our history that prepares us for this moment and I am as prepared as prepared as I can be, because of yesterday.

And I feel lucky to own a mindset that is continuously finding power in my past, all of it; that is how I grow. Using my past to decide what I want to connect with is how I set and reset my priorities in both my personal and professional life.
