Exploring Life & Business with Cleopatria Rosario of Rosarios Empanadas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cleopatria Rosario.

Hi Cleopatria, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised all my life in Minnesota, I moved to Detroit in 2019. I quickly realized that employment in the Detroit – Metro Area is highly competitive and the good jobs are quickly filled. My mindset has shifted from Corporate America to Entrepreneur. I tried a few different things, graphic design, baked goods, cleaning services, they just never lasted. One day, it just popped into my head, I should make Empanadas for people! Since then, instead of rushing into the idea like I have in the past, I prayed on the idea and took my time with it. It’s still has a lot of growing to do but I am okay with a slow and steady pace, I let go of the control and allowed God to manage the flow of my business.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
So far, the process to establish the business and promoting my business has been smooth. However, to get my food license, that has been rocky. Also, finding balance has been a job in itself considering that I am a mother to a 3-year-old and a 10-month-old. I work a full-time job, a partner, and kicking a small business off the ground. By the grace of God, I’m taking it one day at a time.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Rosarios Empanadas is a small business in Detroit, serving the Detroit- Metro Area. They are Puerto Rican Empanadas, it is the seasoning, the flavor is what makes them Puerto Rican. Rosarios Empanadas also offers Arroz Con Pollo (Yellow Rice), Loaded Guac, Platanos and Pico De Gallo.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Social media has been my main source of marketing, I advertise everything that I make and I promote it by having people share my posts as well as paid advertisements with accounts who have a large following. I will reach out to people who have an influence in Detroit and offer them some food to try.
