Exploring Life & Business with Alexis Pacheco of Five Crown Fitness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Pacheco.

Hi Alexis, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.

I started dancing at the age of 3 and quickly fell in love with teaching, coaching, and performing, so much so that I decided to make it my life’s work. I received my degree in Dance with a masters in education and continued coaching and choreographing for local high school and college teams while dancing as the captain and choreographer for the Detroit Piston’s Dance Team. As a dancer, I was alarmed at how many of my teammates (myself included) suffered from eating disorders. That inspired me to learn as much as I could about fitness, healthy eating, and behavioral changes that could make it possible to achieve the dancer’s aesthetic in a healthy way. That began my journey into personal training, nutrition coaching, teaching group fitness classes for adults, and all things health and wellness. I became a master trainer at a large corporate fitness company and moved to Minnesota to pursue my dream of teaching other instructors how to be the best coaches they could be until COVID hit.

At the onset of Covid, my partner and I sought a way to keep our fitness community growing and connected as we realized the importance of movement and human connection on mental and physical wellbeing. We began an online fitness platform from our garage and eventually were able to host outdoor classes. In fall of 2021 we headed back to Michigan to reunite with friends and family and in doing so started the pursuit of opening a brick and mortar for our community to grow and flourish. We are preparing for our grand opening  in the fall  of 2022 and couldn’t be more excited!

As a female business owner and professional in a very competitive industry, I have experienced my fair share of adversity, as has my business partner as a Latin American male. We believe strongly in creating a space that is free of judgment and pride ourselves in opening our doors to all ages, fitness levels, nationalities, and cultures to experience joy in movement.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I worked in 3 very challenging and male-focused industries as a professional dancer, in collegiate and professional sports, as well as in fitness. There is significant pressure on females not only to “look the part” but also to “play the part”. I spoke out publicly about my health challenges with breast implants, the reasons that I felt pressured to get them as a dancer, and the choice I made to have them removed. Ultimately, I believe that we have a responsibility to stay true to ourselves and empower others to do the same through discernment and education. I look forward to  sharing  the lessons that I have learned to continue to empower other women and to be a role model for my daughter and other young females.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My partner Devin and I share a love for people and a joy in making them smile through entertaining experiences. With his professional experience in sports entertainment and mine as a dancer and choreographer, nothing fills our cup more than building community. Our staff is comprised of highly educated professionals that strive to make every member feel seen.

We offer fitness classes in large and small group settings as well as individualized training, and health and wellness coaching.  Geared toward individuals who love music and movement, our classes are fun, upbeat, energetic, and guaranteed to leave people feeling uplifted and accomplished. In addition to fitness classes in cardio dance, barre, and strength training, we also train high school and college athletes in injury prevention techniques and pre-professional dancers in technical dance training.

We are committed to providing a space and place for people that is “judgment-free,” but part of that comes with knowing and understanding ourselves and giving ourselves grace and permission to be who we are.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Many people told me I would never be a professional dancer, that I wasn’t skinny enough or tall enough. What I learned is that your vibe attracts your tribe and in surrounding yourself with positive, uplifting people who want the best for each other, so much more is possible. Our fitness community is no exception as we are truly stronger together.
