Daily Inspiration: Meet Shari Mocheit

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shari Mocheit.

Hi Shari, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi there!  I’m Shari Mocheit (pronounced moh-SHAY) (yeah… it’s weird).  I’m an actress, singer, director, and choreographer currently performing internationally onboard various cruise lines. Originally from Detroit, and raised with three awesome brothers, I vivaciously love life, adventures, and making people laugh. After graduating with a BFA from Western Michigan University, I moved to Chicago and began my professional performance career with companies such as Drury Lane Theatre, Theatre at the Center, Porchlight Music Theatre, Metropolis Performing Arts Center, Fox Valley Repertory, and many more.

I have been fortunate enough to work with Emmy and Tony Award-winning teams such as director/choreographer Marcia Milgrom Dodge on the Multi-Jefferson Award Winning production of Smokey Joe’s Café and director/choreographer Joshua Bergasse (SMASH, On the Town, So You Think You Can Dance, Charlie, and the Chocolate Factory) on the World Premiere Jefferson Award Nominated Hazel: A Musical Maid in America.

I starred in numerous commercial and print campaigns such as Quicken Loans, Groupon, 5-Hour Energy, and industrials for companies such as Volkswagen, Mars Wrigley, and Chevy.

I’ve sung in numerous cabarets and solo performances too! Such as the Arlington International Racecourse Gala with Second City, numerous performances at The Joseph Jefferson Award Ceremonies, and multiple staged readings and workshops throughout Chicago. I starred as Abby Prior in the Toronto Independent Film Award Winning Atrophy, which also won the Indie Originals Award for best Sci-Fi Feature Film, and I played Linda/dance captain in the Olympia Entertainment production of Evil Dead: The Musical right back home in downtown Detroit at the City Theatre.

I have worked as a director, choreographer, producer, and writer for independent films, music videos, and theatres such as Festival 56.

All this and I feel like I’m just getting started!

I love social dances such as salsa, cha cha, east and west coast swing, and Argentine tango, have a passion for traveling, entertaining, food, wine, makeup FX, and building genuine connections as well as my passion and love for performing. I’m a bubbly ENFJ and bibliophile who enjoys Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, kickboxing, and can often be found playing piano, drum set, and ukulele. I hope to share joy, positivity, love, and light with as many people as possible through my work.

I’m so beyond grateful to God, my incredible family, and friends for all their continued love and support!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
You’re never done grinding in a performance career. The amount of auditions you go out on to the amount of jobs booked ratio is never as high as one would like it to be, but maintaining the tenacity, drive, and motivation to keep going is all part of the job. I have been told “no thanks” more times than I can count, but I really love what I do, and can’t imagine doing anything else.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Actress, Singer, Dancer, Director, Choreographer, Model, Voice-Over Artist, Makeup, and Special FX Artist, I think it’s safe to say that I keep pretty busy.  For the past five years I have been travelling internationally performing for cruise lines such as Norwegian Cruise Lines, Crystal Cruises, and Seabourn Cruise Line. Travelling and exploring the world while having the opportunity to perform has been more than an absolute dream come true and I feel beyond blessed to be living a life so far beyond my wildest dreams.
