Today we’d like to introduce you to Kris Pride.
Hi Kris, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am Kris Pride, Songbird & Rainbow Warrior. I am a retired social worker and singer-songwriter/musician with a passion for equality and social & environmental justice. I started live-streaming regularly when the COVID -19 pandemic hit, to provide entertainment and support to people confined to their homes, especially LGBTQIA+, elderly, teenagers, and disabled folks. I provide a safe space for ALL, regardless of size, shape, gender, skin color, income, spiritual beliefs, etc., and I entertain with live music, spirit messages, and conversation. My fans are called Pride-A-Doodles. We are music lovers who respect and value equality and diversity. We stand up against injustices like racism, sexism, ageism, ableism, and police brutality, and we fight for environmental justice like clean air and water, you can find the Pride-A-Doodles live on Twitch nearly every Monday and Friday, 3-5 pm Eastern / 2-4 pm Central (or later) at https://Twitch.TV/KrisPride.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have struggled with mental illness (bipolar disorder) all of my life. My live stream helps me cope and thrive as well as helping others.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have an MSW from Eastern Michigan University. I retired from social work but now I combine my social work skills with music on my free live stream at https://Twitch.TV/KrisPride. I am a singer-songwriter-musician. I write music, play guitar, ukulele, and piano. I write songs about recovering from mental illness (Heal, Only You, One of Those Moments…) and social & environmental justice. (Perfect Storm and Water Is Life). I also am an international recording artist who collaborates with artists all over the world. You can hear my musical projects (solos and collabs) on Kompoz, Soundblend, Reverbnation, and SoundCloud.
I was voted Best Female Blues Vocalist in the 35th Annual Review Music Awards, although I sing an eclectic mix of folk, country, rock, blues, Celtic, jazz, and more.
My wife Kari and I have an award-winning video production company called Pride-Helm Productions. We combine my music skills with her videography, photography, and graphic design skills to make amazing music videos.
