Daily Inspiration: Meet Erika Plackowski

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika Plackowski. 

Hi Erika, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello, I’m Erika Plackowski, The Bridal Stylist from Detroit, MI. I’ve had the pleasure of gaining my experience across a variety of well-known retailers which allowed me to put my hands on every item of my dreams. With clothing at my fingertips along with amazing discounts, I was able to curate the wardrobe I had always longed for.

Working in and out of retail for over 10 years and loving fashion since I was a little girl is how I started. People would always tell me I should be a stylist. I started dressing friends for events and then people started paying me to do it. 

I would try to do other things like substitute teach and work for marketing companies because I was told you couldn’t really make a career out of being a stylist. Every time I tried to get away from it, it kept calling me back. In 2018, I styled someone for a pageant and the won the national title. Then more pageant contestants started to reach out. In January 2020, I invested in a business coach to help me really get my business together and find my niche. 

It was the perfect time to really get everything together and really figure out who I was out to service. It feels great to help women look great for those important moments. I like to say, if you look great, you’ll feel great. 

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all! Whenever you try to do anything outside of the norm Imposter syndrome kicks in. That self-doubt creeps in or you find yourself comparing yourself to others. 

For the past few years, I’ve had to explain to people what it is I do. I’m not a wedding planner or a designer but people automatically think that because they hear the word Bride. But my job is important and one of my struggles in convincing a bride they should invest in the styling of their bridal style journey. 

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am The Bridal Stylist I help brides create a stress-free luxury experience for their entire wedding style vision. I like to assist brides as soon as they’re engaged. I can create an experience and style brides from their engagement party, bridal shower, bachelorette party, rehearsal dinner, wedding, reception, and honeymoon. 

I am most proud of being able create a lane for myself, in addition to working with brides, I also work with women competing in pageants. I help women look good on some of the most important days of their lives. The moment when all eyes are on them. 

What sets me apart from others is most bridal stylists only style for the wedding day, I help for the entire bridal style story. 

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Set goals!!! If you fail to plan, you plan to fail is so true to me. Once I started to take my business serious and really had a game plan, the rest fell into place.
