Conversations with Yvonne Spampinato

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yvonne Spampinato.

Yvonne, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
KEPT Jewelry is a Sophisticated and Affordable line of Jewelry. All of which is designed and handmade by myself.

KEPT designs are unique and effortless, perfect for everyday wear.

My line offers a diverse selection of styles. Simple, edgy, and even earthy bohemian styles. Many of my designs harken back to vintage costume jewelry where most of my inspiration comes from.

Mostly made of brass, many of my pieces are hammered and metal smithed.

I incorporate semi-precious stones, crystals, fiber, leather, and sometimes found objects into my designs.

In addition, I use beading techniques, and I thoughtfully assemble beads and brass components to create my designs.

Making Jewelry for people to enjoy has been a lifetime passion for me. Years ago, I started collecting and selling Vintage costume jewelry which gave me an invaluable hands-on experience that enriched my knowledge of jewelry and business in my ways.

From finding reasonable price points to functionality and wearability of pieces to years of customer service acquiring a keen sense of what jewelry people are truly drawn to and why.

Overall I’ve been growing and nurturing KEPT jewelry well over 10 years, and I was able to take it full-time over 4 years ago. It’s been an interesting adventure, and I’m still very grateful I get to do what I love every day. I’m constantly striving to evolve and grow my business with every passing year. I firmly believe the trick to growing a successful business is to know your pace and limits. I think it’s incredibly important to live in the moment and not over-wish or catapult yourself into the future. Grow your business at a pace you can realistically attain, take the time to congratulate yourself for the small and big achievements. Running your own business is very much a round the clock job but I feel very fortunate for my independence and success.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I think overall, it’s been relatively smooth process. It takes a lot of thoughtfulness and thorough planning to achieve that smooth experience. It’s really important to stay in touch and network with the craft & art show community; finding the right shows to showcase at and applying on time is half the battle. Over the years, I’ve learned the hard way which shows are and aren’t worth your time. It’s incredibly important to know your audience and provide goods that intrigue them (priced reasonably)

I think one of the challenges to showcasing at art fairs and craft shows is the setting up and breaking down, it takes a lot of dedication to do that on a regular basis. But ultimately, the reward is worth it. I also really enjoy being able to interact with my customer base and truly having an understanding what pieces of mine brings them joy.

While I still participate in several events throughout the year, I’m incredibly grateful to now have a booth at the Rust Belt in downtown Ferndale.

Having a home base where I can share my work on a weekly basis has been a very rewarding experience. It’s had a huge influence on evolving my work this past year, and I love being a part of the Rust Belt community.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
KEPT Jewelry is a simple & sophisticated line of jewelry. Made mostly of brass and semi-precious beads. All designs are created by myself. I strive to create pieces that are affordable and easy to wear every day. To achieve the texture on my metal, I use hammering techniques to add depth and texture to the pieces. Incorporating beads and color to my designs add even more appeal to my pieces. Quartz Crystal points, moonstone, labradorite, turquoise, chrysoprase, these are just handful of the stones that I use.

I specialize in a variety of handmade jewelry, from bold statement pieces to tiny delicate ones; I offer a wide range selection, all thoughtfully created. I think one of my favorite things to create are bold brass earrings. There’s so much room for creativity and expression. Big earrings are such an easy way to boost your confidence and feel like your ensemble is complete.

  • My price range is $20 – $60
