Today we’d like to introduce you to Quincy Botsford & MJ Brown.  

Hi Quincy & MJ, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We are a podcast called Kushnicks. We are an advocate for the cannabis community and the shoe community. 

We talk about the stigma behind cannabis, the growth, and development of cannabis products, medical and recreational, and how the shoe community connects with cannabis, historically and currently. We believe in Impact Over Fame. We also talk about how we can be of help to the people of these communities as well. 

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our obstacles during our short time of being around have included many things starting with funds to being a couple of black men on camera talking about sneakers and weed. People didn’t really take us seriously now we are gaining traction. We are now starting to gain the attention of some larger brands that we are excited to work with! 

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We believe in Impact Over Fame. We strive on being an entity for small to large businesses, promoting their brand and business motto on a wide and diverse platform, and we work together to destigmatize the sigma of cannabis and improve the communities involved to help they thrive. 

As a team at KushNKicks, we host a weekly podcast focused on spreading knowledge about cannabis products while giving our viewers a balanced and thoughtful review of the products we try during our livestream. In addition to discussing cannabis, at the beginning of each show we feature a sneaker release and inform our audience on how to find the shoes for the cheapest price possible. Our focus is on spreading love and positivity to both communities which are more inter-related than most people would think. While we highlight both topics, our main focus is on cannabis and all the benefits of different cannabinoids. This is why every week we provide the local Kalamazoo community with the chance to win free cannabis products by entering our giveaways, dubbed “airpackages.” Airpackages have been a consistent way to generate engagement on our platforms and serve as an outlet for brands to let consumers try their products and generate feedback. Currently, our team is in the process of transitioning from Facebook and Instagram, where each week around 500 local viewers tune in, to other platforms i.e. Apple Music, Spotify, etc. This transition will allow KushNKicks to reach a broader audience while avoiding the pressure put by social media companies on cannabis brands. Since creating KushNKicks over a year ago, our team has been lucky enough to work side by side with cannabis brands to help promote their products and share their story via the podcast. We are always looking for new voices within the cannabis industry!!

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Our risk is that we are all in on our podcast…. we both quit our full-time better-paying jobs to pursue this dream!!! Also, by putting ourselves out there by smoking on camera even though it’s a bit of a gray area!!
