Conversations with Mallory Tahy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mallory Tahy.  

Hi Mallory, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My dad was a local portrait photographer in the 60s and 70s, and his love of photography continued throughout his life. He would use his professional film, and then eventually digital cameras to take our photos on vacation or at whatever event we were attending at the time. As I continued to get older, he would gift me his cameras as he upgraded and I always found it fascinating and fun. Especially when blogging became a thing (but well before being an influencer was cool and social media was a thing.) I was very much into OOTD posts and creating a little space on my corner of the web. However, it wasn’t until college that I took a formal photography class for my major. It was there I got outside of my comfort zone with photography and captured events. 

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
In business, you want to fail early and often. I learned a lot in the first two years and I gave myself the opportunity to try everything with photography. I’ve captured it all families, newborns, commercials, branding, and so on, but my heart is with my couples and weddings! 

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Luxury wedding photography for the classic bride who is looking for timeless light-filled images to treasure forever. I shoot both film and digital photography and provide a seamless bespoke wedding experience for my couples from booking to final delivery of their gallery. My clients are wonderful to work with, I’m really proud of the business that I’ve built, but mostly the connections I’ve formed with my clients and their families. 

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I also work in Food Marketing. I’ve spent the last 10 years in the restaurant industry working for major restaurant brands that you probably have eaten before, working with franchisees to grow their businesses. It is why being an entrepreneur comes naturally to me.
