Today we’d like to introduce you to Luke Schumaker.
Hi Luke, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Growing up, I always loved to create. I often became bored and would complain to my mom. Every time she answered with, “You’re creative, you can think of something.” So I did! Give me a cardboard box, and I would turn it into a robot. Give me pillows and blankets, and I would create the coolest pillow fort you’d ever seen! When I got an iPhone and I was out making trickshot videos and cringy short films with the neighbors. Then, when I got my first Canon camera, God’s timing was so perfect, and my cousin was getting married. I created my first three wedding films for free, starting with my cousin, then both of my brothers. That’s when friends of friends began to see my work, and soon enough, I was a wedding videographer all through word of mouth. I am now a senior at Spring Arbor University studying Digital Communication and Marketing with an endorsement in Video and Film Production, and I have been filming weddings for 5 years.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a smooth road so far on my videography journey. I wasn’t sure if this would become a full-time gig, but God has continued to open doors in my filmmaking journey. New clients keep coming my way, and I have done nothing to deserve it. I have also had some corporate clients reach out, and I hope to continue working in the corporate world. I have just loved creating any type of video and connecting with new people on every project.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a wedding filmmaker/storyteller based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. What sets me apart is the “Story Session.” Each one of my wedding packages includes a story session. Think of a story session as an engagement session, but for video! You and your fiancé will reminisce about all the wonderful life you have lived together while I capture your truest love with stunning visuals and audio. We can relive your first date, visit your hometown, hang out at the beach, or do whatever it is that makes you you! It will not only connect your guests to your story, but it will leave a lasting legacy for your kids and grandkids to come. These moments won’t take the focus from the wedding day, but add to it because there is so much more to your story than what is told on your wedding day!
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was the quiet but creative kid. When I was home, I loved to draw, make crafts, and adventure out into the woods for hours with the neighbor kids.
