Today we’d like to introduce you to LaKesha Van Horn.
LaKesha, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a Videographer but just the other day I was saying within how soon to come I will only be creating productions for my company and on a big scale.
I love to create through storytelling and music. It started when I was a kid, I would take pictures and make slides for my family with the best jams I could find.
When doing that my goal was capturing moments but also sparking emotions that allowed my people to feel warm, happy, and become closer.
I then graduated from taking pictures all the time to recording short docustories on my phone. My very first one was of a protest happening outside of the Fischer building, this is when the city got their first emergency manager…boy what a time.
Fast forward to today I am the Owner of Rose In Detroit, LLC and part of my mission is to provide the world with a fresh perspective of who Detroiters are.
Creatively, I do that through apparel and content. I like to tell the stories that people may have forgotten about or never knew about the average resident and or business within the city. To me, those stories matter just as much as the ones that get national attention.
Through it all, I am still learning, learning myself, my craft, and my purpose. I once was a Christian Minister (very long story) but I wrote a short book about the experience and during that time I stopped being the activist and creator that I was in the community.
So now, I’ve picked my tools back up and there’s so much I have to learn and sadly missed!
Nevertheless, I am grateful and enjoying this journey and I promise… You may interview me again about The Rose In Detroit. lol
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No smooth road for me, my road was like the Davison service drive off the lodge! Felt like I was on a landmine sometimes lol.
There was a time in my life when I forgot who I was. I suffered a lot of loss. During that time, I was unable to create, I was battling the emotions of regret, anger, and confusion. Waking up every day and trying to fight the same fight.
And then one day, my wake-up was different. I started writing until it became a book: Thinking Out Loud: The Rhythmic Thoughts of A Former Christian Minister.
This struggle was Identity Crisis.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an Entrepreneur, an Artist (I rap), an Author, Apparel Decorator, and Content Creator.
I like to share my viewpoint with the world that’s where KESHALETSTALK come in.

I’m most proud of myself, that I never quit but I’m still pressing.
And I feel that Rose In Detroit is something real special, it will be bigger than I imagine.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
