Conversations with Jasmine Mitchell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Mitchell.

Hi Jasmine, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
While attending college and pursuing psychology, I landed a job being a retail store manager. I adored my job because I was able to change people’s lives in fashion and be a mentor to my employees. I love helping people in any way that I can! But, after eleven years, I decided to hang up my white hat and pursue my personal dreams. I honestly didn’t know what my dreams were until I focused on my baking and creating. A fire was lit!

After baking for friends, family, and church functions, I decided to give this talent a name. That’s when J.Carmels was born. I work very hard in perfecting recipes and designs that you can visualize and taste. The love I put into baking makes all creations unique.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Building a business is never a smooth road! There has been MANY late nights, breakdowns, and joyous moments. A true roller coaster of emotions. I would say the hardest struggle for me was figuring out what I wanted to focus on. In the beginning, I wanted to do everything just to satisfy everyone’s taste buds. I quickly realized I was wearing myself out and needed to focus on a set menu. Once I did that, it was so much easier, and I was able to perfect my craft.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in luxury custom cakes and desserts. All cake designs are unique to the customer and event because I feel that every person and event is different. To me, cake and dessert has always been the life of the party so why be mediocre.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
I learned that pandemic or not; people are going to celebrate moments in life. I had a couple of weeks where I had no orders but it was very quick. So hey, if they want cake, let them eat cake! With precautions of course.
