Conversations with Amanda Rogers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Rogers.

Amanda, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have always had a passion for photography ever since I was young. I was constantly looking at all of our family photos and creating scrapbooks. In college, I started to take an interest in photography and decided I was going to teach myself how to properly use a camera.

I continued to practice on friends and family, which opened a lot of doors for my business because people were starting to take a liking to my work.

I went to college to pursue a career in the marketing world. I wasn’t confident about if I was going to combine my love for marketing and photography, but I was going to find a way. During the pandemic, I focused all my energy on creating a brand for myself and my photography through Instagram and Tik Tok. I continued to grow on these platforms, and the hard work and dedication ended up paying off!

I am currently a Digital Marketing Specialist at Leigh’s. A majority of my work involves fashion photography and videography. I am able to still continue my side business where I focus a lot on portrait photography such as senior portraits, graduation photos, engagements, and more!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not! Starting a new business is always difficult because you don’t know where to start. In order to put myself out there I had to offer up a lot of free sessions to gain practice. I also wanted to make sure I stood out from other photographers and that my style was my own!

Photography can be a very tricky business, especially because there are so many different things that go into creating a beautiful image. I keep reminding myself to never compare my work to others.

Photography takes time and practice. I am not even close to where I want to be as a photographer, but looking back at my images from a year ago, I can see a dramatic change in my work!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a photographer who focuses on portrait photography. This includes senior portraits, graduation photos, engagements, and more. I think what sets me apart from other photographers is that I also specialize in fashion photography. These shoots typically have a more editorial look to them. These are my favorite types of shoots because you are able to take your creativity to the next level and play around with editing, outfits, makeup, location, colors, and more!

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I would say my creativity is what made me successful. Not only am I creative with my shoots and editing, but I also have been able to find new ways to market my business through a variety of different platforms. I am able to keep up with trends and also learn new and exciting ways to keep myself growing as a photographer.
