Today we’d like to introduce you to Milah Renee Aka Jamilah Wallace Glenn
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
At JAHDSPACES, LLC, we are a Detroit-based, Black-owned digital marketing and design agency with a mission to empower underserved communities. Our services include design, branding, business consulting, and youth mentorship, specifically focusing on engaging and uplifting communities of color. We provide youth workshops in filmmaking, creative writing, and music lessons, fostering creativity and skill development among Detroit’s young, aspiring creators.
Our work extends beyond traditional marketing, as we offer personalized consulting services to small businesses, helping them build strong brands, create innovative products, and expand their reach. Whether through crafting compelling visual narratives, building brand identities, or developing digital marketing strategies, we are passionate about supporting local businesses and nurturing the next generation of creators.
As a single mother and entrepreneur, I am deeply committed to giving back to the community by creating opportunities for others. Through our work, we have supported internships, innovation, and mentorship programs that positively impact Detroit’s most underserved districts. JAHDSPACES exists not just to deliver exceptional branding services, but also to contribute to the growth, resilience, and creativity of our community. One of our current products is a digital mini-story book that inspires the youth while educating them.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to building JAH-D SPACES has been anything but smooth, but every challenge has shaped our resilience and vision. One of the biggest struggles has been securing funding and resources to expand our programs and reach more underserved communities. As a small business, competing for grants and investment in a saturated market has required persistence and creative problem-solving.
Another challenge has been navigating the balance between creative work and business operations—ensuring that while we focus on empowering youth and businesses through design, branding, and mentorship, we also maintain sustainable growth. Finding the right partnerships and team members who align with our mission has been crucial but not always easy.
Additionally, working in underserved areas means overcoming systemic barriers—limited access to opportunities, skepticism from institutions, and breaking the cycle of underrepresentation in creative and business spaces. However, these struggles have only reinforced why JAH-D SPACES exists: to create lasting change, provide access, and uplift the next generation of creatives and entrepreneurs in Detroit.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
JAH-D SPACES is a Detroit-based creative agency dedicated to empowering underserved communities through photography, design, branding, business consulting, and youth mentorship. We specialize in helping businesses establish strong brand identities while also providing filmmaking, photography, and creative workshops for aspiring artists and entrepreneurs. What sets us apart is our commitment to storytelling and impact, bridging the gap between creativity and economic growth. We’re most proud of our ability to uplift local talent, create opportunities, and transform ideas into powerful visual narratives. Our mission is to build, inspire, and elevate Detroit’s creative ecosystem—one project at a time.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Absolutely. The COVID-19 crisis reinforced the importance of adaptability, digital presence, and community support in business. When in-person events and client interactions halted, we quickly learned to pivot to virtual platforms, expanding our reach through online workshops, digital branding, and remote creative services.
It also highlighted the power of storytelling and connection—brands that communicated with authenticity thrived, and we helped businesses craft messaging that resonated during uncertain times. Most importantly, the pandemic emphasized the need for resilience and collaboration—supporting our community, staying innovative, and building long-term sustainability rather than relying solely on traditional business models.
