Community Highlights: Meet Kera Berutti of Restrumed

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kera Berutti.

Kera, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In 2016, I was actively looking for a hobby after my son started preschool. On social media one day, a sponsored ad of a guitar string jewelry company came through my feed and stopped me in my tracks! I’ve always loved guitars and thought, what a fun way to incorporate art and music together! The following day, again on social media, a local woman was selling her jewelry making supplies for $25. It had everything I needed to get started besides my first few picks and strings. I taught myself how to make jewelry by both watching YouTube videos, and the old-fashioned way: making mistakes! I had my first display in a retail store 4 DAYS after seeing that guitar string bracelet on social media, and within 3 months I had sold my 100th bracelet. I began selling at small craft shows as I was still waitressing full time.

I was finally able to leave the restaurant industry completely in 2020 when quarantine had us all closed down and I found myself in a supportive environment.

I am a huge fan of music and growing up so close to Michigan’s famous Pine Knob Music Theater gave me the inspiration to include band merch packages! Using the band’s personal picks and used guitar strings, I am able to offer “stage used” jewelry and accessories to their fans, at their OWN merch tables!! My dream is to see Restrumed being featured in merch counters across the country! Imagine going to see your favorite band and seeing a “stage used guitar string bracelet”!!

Restrumed has been featured on local news four times now. First for replacing broken guitar strings on a 9-foot rockin’ guitarist statue in downtown Fenton, Mi. Other interviews were on site at street festivals and I was able to feature the entire booth full of displays!!
One side effect that I didn’t see coming: Music is so personal, it’s almost like a portal to a place, with a person and maybe even at certain age! You see that logo, or album cover, and suddenly you’re in another place. I’ve had shoppers (and myself!) in tears more times than I can count because of the power music holds. I’ve had the honor of making many custom pieces using special picks or strings that belonged to a loved one, or that they caught at a concert, or that were given to them at a VIP meet and greet, including STUDIO USED strings from Metallica! We used guitar picks with Metallica’s charity logo and made them into bracelets. They were donated and sold at auctions online to raise money for “All Within My Hands” – a Metallica foundation.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s never been a smooth road. Any sales have gone back into the business with no outside funding. I’ve made every piece by hand, every string untangled, every licensed guitar pick sourced. Over the 6 years I’ve been creating I’ve had 1 divorce, 3 Crohn’s Disease flares, 4 related surgeries, and even more hospital stays, not to mention 1 quarantine and 3 years of elementary aged homeschooling! What started as a hobby to help pass time at my monthly Crohn’s Disease related infusions became the main focus of my attention during the trauma and stresses of divorce and health problems. When the world was falling down around me, I always had my strings. My music. My son. I hyper-focused on creating and blaring music as loud as the neighbors would tolerate.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business?
The core value of Restrumed is upcycling. We use old strings and new guitar picks to make jewelry and accessories. Quite cleverly, I find ways of using all the parts of the strings, upcycle the string AND guitar pick packaging into new products like sticker packs, and guitar pick packs from our awesome variety! We even purchased all of our booth’s displays secondhand.

I use licensed guitar picks as major part of the Restrumed line. Since I don’t own those images, guitar picks are bought from the license holder, like the band’s merch websites. Many of our guitar picks with themed images and custom band merch package’s are made right here in Michigan as well!! has been a dream of mine for years now. I’ve hired an awesome website designer! Currently on, there is an email list to join, to hear first-hand, when the shop is live. So go check out for updates and special announcements!!

Our social media pages are quite active on Facebook and Instagram with giveaways a few times a year, event pages for local festivals we sell at, and tons of products to check out!!

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
My favorite childhood memories have a musical theme! A toss between rolling down the hill on the lawn at Pine Knob with my mom and my sister or singing karaoke for the first time. It was up north in a TINY town festival, my Grandma and Mom cheered so loud! And a small girl approached me after to ask if I was the “real Shania Twain” I was hooked on singing after that.
